Electric motor hums but does not open or close garage door

Craftsman 3/4 chain drive will not open, when pressing wall switch I hear click at the unit and the programming light will flash, but it doesn't open the door, or close for that matter the motor...

The unit is for sure repairable. You should remove the cover from the motor unit and check the drive gear. It is a white nylon gear just in front of the motor and it will be obvious if it is bad. If you have had electrical storms it may have gotten to your logic board. You need to pull it and check for burnt or missing traces on the printed circuit.

Garage door opened fine but now when I try to close it, all I hear is a buzzing sound for 3 sec., light comes on but door won't go down.

Your trolley may be jammed against the bolt just in front of the motor unit. If so, loosen the chain enough to relieve the strain on the chain and then run the opener until the door is closed. While the door is closed locate the 'up limit' control on the side of the motor unit. Turn this control 2 full turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Tighten the chain.

Unit has power, went up, won't go down. Pushed re set, still nothing. Can hear unit try to engage but will not operate

Check to see if the trolley is jammed against the bolt just in front of the motor housing. If it is you need to loosen the chain enough to release the tension and then run the opener until the door is closed. While the door is closed, locate the 'up limit' control on the side of the motor unit. Turn this 2 complete turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Tighten the chain.

I Have a Liftmaster Professional Formula 1 garage door opener. When we press button on wall or garage door opener, we hear the motor going but the garage door doesn't do anything. Do I need a new opener?

Hi,
There is a rope or string hanging down that releases the dog that hooks the door to the chain...if someone pulled that the door will not open. You need to pull down and back on the srting to relaese the dog and then push the door up to catch the chain...then the door will work again...

Opener opened fine from the wall and stopped

Check to see if the trolley is jammed against the bolt just in front of the motor unit. If so, loosen the chain enough to ease the tension on the trolley and run the motor until the door closes. I can hear the motor "working" but the chain is not moving and so door will not open?

Remove the cover from the motor unit and check the drive gear. It is a white nylon gear just in front of the motor and I'm sure you will find it is stripped. The part number is 41A2817 and is available at any door opener service company. It comes with instructions.

Garage door opener motor runs, but the chain drive doesnt turn

If the chain is not moving and the motor is – you need a gear kit.

Unplug the unit - take of the cover – you will find white shavings inside – these confirm the diagnosis. .

Get the gear AND sprocket kit.

It’s a good DIY project but you MUST VERY CAREFULLY Follow the instructions step by step.

HOPE THIS HELPS
