Your unit will need to be disassembled but with the proper disassembly instructions you may have further complications.

Turn it upside down and shake vigorously. Also, is there a reset hole where a paper clip inserted can do a system reset?

Paper jammed but no paper is jammed.

Sounds like something has fallen into the paper path. Use a flashlight and small mirror to look down the slot where the paper goes. You may have to use a straightened paper clip or the like to help remove the obstruction.
