On your model I would go straight to the defrost heater and defrost thermostat and check them first after defrosting the evaporator first with a hair drier. Both parts need to be replaced=> WR51X10055 Defrost Heater Assembly 25953576-emtx2i4tcmlh0qfjbwwrn2z1-2-0.jpg and the=> WR50X10068 Defrost Thermostat APPLIANCE 911

Freezer quit freezing ice cream Thur night, but everything else was fine, not everything is starting a slow thaw

either the ptc overload relay on the compressor is bad and the compressors not operating to cool the unit or the evaporator coil behind the freezers inside wall is iced up and cant let cold air out due to this blockagethen its a defrost heater/thermostat on the evaporator coil issue

Refrigerator side quits cooling and freezer still works. Do we need a repairman or is it a quick fix?

That sounds like a broken defrost heater or defrost heater thermostat. If you see front on the back service panel then that is a good indication the evaporator is plugged up like a chunk of ice. Unplug the ice box and let it thaw out. Do not take an ice pick to that evaporator! Let her thaw out naturally.
It takes about 2 weeks foce to build up to a blocked state. I have photosthemobilian_274.jpgThis is what a normal evaporator looks like

My Maytag side-by-side is a MSD2655HEQ. The coils in the freezer compartment keep frosting over and the refrigerator side quits keeping cool air. I've defrosted the coils with a blow dryer and the...

The defrost circuit in you freezer has failed that is why you have to defrost the coils. The defrost circuit consists of the heater element, the defrost thermostat and the control module. The control module turns off the compressor and powers up the heating element to melt the ice on the coil, after the coil reaches 40 deg F the thermostat cuts off power to the heater. The heating element and thermostat is mounted to the coil. If you have a multimeter and know how to use one, you can check the thermostat and heater. You can check the heating element with a multimeter to see if it has electrically opened. If it has then you will need to replace it. Check also the thermostat, it should be in series with the heater. It should read close to 0 ohms if it is freezing and read infinite ohms if the temperature is above 40F. If the thermostat and heater check out, the problem might be with the control module.

My samsung side by side was working great untill

You have an automatic defrost problem. The refrigerator is not defrosting
Three important parts. It probably is one of these.
Defrost Timer
Defrost thermostat
defrost heater.
The fan is probably fine, but has nothing to do with Defrost
Check the heater continuity and change the heater defrost thermostat
then replace timer if those don't solve it.

The refrigerator portion has quit cooling.

I have the same problem and have found that if you take the panel off inside the refrigerator and with a blow dryer defrost it. It should work for a few weeks. I have been doing this once a month since March and I hope to found out how to fix it also.

Right side of refrigerator not cooling; frezzer working great

The coil is the thermostat that controls the damper which allows more or less cold air into the fridge compartment and should be put back as you found it. Very important. The problem is that the freezer is not defrosting, hence the ice build-up on the back wall. Either the defrost timer is faulty or the defrost heater is blown. There are two thermostats behind the freezer panel, one in line with the fan and one in line with the heater and they will be clamped to the pipework. Both these thermostats should be closed when iced up. If the fan is not running, that could be faulty too or its thermostat.
