Sounds like you purchased a SATA drive when you need a IDE drive...or vise versa. Check the box. If that's the case, just exchange the drive for the proper one.

Makes no sense. All operating systems during install have generic drivers designed to work the installing drive. If you are getting this message it has to be bogus and I suggest trying another dvd drive in its place.

Can my CD-RW/DVD Rom Drive, model # GCC4320B be replaced with a hp 24x Multiformat DVD/CD Writer, dvd 1270i . I bought this unit today, but the connections don't match up? I truely appreciate your time and...

This model DVD/CD writer is a SATA drive and unless your motherboard has a SATA connector then you have a slight problem. You will need to purchase a SATA controller and install it into your PCI expansion slot, then connect your new DVD/CD drive to this SATA controller. You will also need a SATA adapter power cable converter which plugs into the 4 pin power connector.

You should check if your PSU is providing enough power to the hard drive. In case the hard drive requires more power, you should either replace it or get a better PSU.

I need to know how to remove a DVD drive for a HP lap top.

If your HP Pavilion DV6000 series laptop computer has a bad DVD drive, use the following steps to replace the drive

Purchase a new DVD drive to replace the old HP drive. You can use any slim DVD drive with a 50-pin ATAPI IDE Interface Connector. You will probably want a DVD burner since the original drive was capable of burning DVDs. The drive I used to replace the HP drive is a LG Black IDE Super-multi Slim Notebook DVD Rewriter - OEM version.

Unplug the power cord from your HP laptop. Remove the laptop battery from the back of the computer. This will eliminate the chance of power damage to your computer

Ground yourself by touching a metal object or touch your screwdriver on the ground while touching part of the metal. Unscrew the DVD drive screw circled in the Step 2 photo. Using a small Phillips head screwdriver turn the screw counter-clockwise until it is completely loosened. You may need to flip the computer over to get the screw to fall out. Put the screw in a safe location for later.

Put a small pointed tip object (a paper clip will also work) into the drive release hole on the face of the DVD drive. Use the hole to pull the drive out from the laptop body.

Remove the mounting bracket from the old DVD drive. There are two small Phillips head screws that need to be removed by turning them counterclockwise. Match the bracket up with the holes on the side opposite of the connection port. Using the two screws you just removed, secure the mounting bracket to the new DVD drive by tightening them in the clockwise direction.
Remove the original HP DVD drive face plate from the old drive. It can be removed by working it back and forth to loosen the faceplate. Once it is loose you should be able to pull the faceplate off.

Do the same for the new drive. Once the DVD faceplate is off, match the tabs of the original HP faceplate up and press in until it clicks into place

The new drive is now ready to install into the HP DV6000 series laptop. There is no need to hook up IDE cables and power cables. The new drive can simply be slid into the HP laptop.

Find the screw from Step 3. Make sure the DVD drive is pressed in all the way. Install the small Phillips head screw in the back of the laptop and tighten by turning clockwise.

I have no idea what I am doing. I put in a sata driver on my ide motherboard. I bought and hooked up all cords to connect it and now it only opens and closes. It will not install or read any disc. What...

Thank you for your question.

The fact that it opens and closes means you are very close in getting it to work correctly.

Could we take a moment to sort out the technical aspects of what you are asking/saying?

Sata Driver on IDE Motherboard?
A driver is software that is installed to the Operating System. Do you mean a SATA Converter, so that the IDE connection is changed into a SATA connection? If so, let's move on.

The cords that you connected, is it two (usually)red cords with single black ends at each end? If so, let's move on.

If we have got this far, you will have to enter the BIOS settings to ensure that the motherboard has found your new DVD. If you have your manual it will explain which button to push on initial bootup to enter BIOS. It can be "delete", "F2 or F12', manufacturers are not consistent on this. Once in BIOS you need to make sure all options for the IDE drives are on "auto", makes the BIOS do the work for you.

You do not have to install the DVD, the BIOS recognises the new Drive as a Storage Device like a Hard Drive, no drivers needed.

Although the other thing after successfully getting the drive to read discs is you will need to install the optional programmes such as Power DVD for watching movies and Nero for burning DVD?CD's.

Kind regards

Cant get roxio my dvd/le combo or roxiocreator plus to install

To install the software you must remove your cd/dvd drives. Physically from your computer. This is a common problem with this software. After installed plug your drives back in and you should be good to go.

I purchased a 360 cosole -w- a defective dvd drive, put new one

DId you write the bin from the old drive to the new drive?. The dvd drive is married to the motherboard which means you just cant change the dvd drive and play games in it without it matching the bin which is encoded on the dvd drive chip in the original drive.

To play this disk put it in an X-Box 360 console??? Nice message after I replaced the disk drive. I bought a new driver made for the 360 and it still only shows disks for DVD ??

The dvd drive and the motherboard have a key that must match each other. The xbox 360 dvd drives are not plug-and-play. You must first extract the key from the original drive and spoof firmware to make the new drive match the key on the motherboard. There is an easy way though.... just take the pcb board out of the old drive and stick it into the new one, then everything should work fine withough messing with the firmware. Drive problem

Hello.

Each console has got a unique DVD-key that is stored in the actual console itself and the DVD-drive if you take a drive from another console they keys on the mainboard and DVD-drive dont match and the system refuses to play the games as it cant encrypt the DVD-drive -> mainboard connection that the Xbox security system uses these keys for.

If you replace a drive you first have to read out the key from the original drive and then flash/write it to the replacement drive so that the two keys match if the 2 drives are made by different vendors you will also have to spoof the replacement drive which means if you replace a Hitachi drive with a Samsung you will have to make the Xbox think it still got a Hitachi and spoof the drive identification string.
You can do all that with a tool called Firmware Toolbox and other various tools.

The whole procedure is explained step by step in this detailed tutorial:

I hope this helps.

Installed new Xbox DVD ROM, but cannot read games

The DVD drives must match the motherboard that it came with. Unless you go through a very complicated re-flashing process. If the motherboard and DVD drive do not match, it will not play 360 games
