Question about Maytag Refrigerators

Open Question

We have a 13-month old Maytag, top freezer, Model M1TXEMMWQ. We just discovered a large pool of water underneath the right side of the refrigerator. The is no evidence that the water supply for the ice maker is leaking at either the wall or at the back of the refrigerator. Any idea what could be causing the leak?

SOURCE: drain pan leaking?

there is a drip pan located underneath you ref but most likely your prob is a plugged drain line coming from the freezer. when you ref goes into automatic def the water doesnt run out into the drip pan but instead onto your floor..

you can clean the drain line by removing the rear cover in the freezer compartment and using hot water to thaw the drain below the evap coil.

This sounds like the float mechanism has gone bad. Remove it and have a look. It may be the float or the switch on it that is bad. There is also a solenoid valve. Parts kits are available. Shut off the water first!

SOURCE: Roper Refrigerator, top freezer leaking water into refrigerator

This is usually caused by a plugged freezer drain. The back wall (or floor) of the freezer may come out to access the drain. Clear out anything visible and run a stiff wire thru it. Test with a cup of water. Hope this helps!

SOURCE: Water pooling underneath bottom drawers

Find the drain line from the freezer to the evaporation pan near the motor. Often the line is visible on the back of the fridge. That line is plugged either with food residue or the collection point in the freezer is solid ice. The self defrost feature melts the frost and drains it to the evap pan. If you remove the floor from the freezer area, you will see the collection point. When the line gets plugged with food, no water drains and then freezes to block the line even worse. So, if there is ice at the collection point, remove it somehow, maybe a hair dryer, and then clear the line by blowing compressed air from the bottom of the drain hose through to the collection point.

Carl would you get me the model number of your whirlpool. Most times found inside the fresh food compartment door frame and near bottom. Your problem sounds like a blockage in the defrost drain tube that leads to the condensate pan under the refrigerator. Thank You, Sea Breeze

This has nothing to do with the ice maker. The defrost drain has frozen over. Inside the freezer you will see that the whole back is a panel. Unplug the unit and gently pry at the top of this panel. It will come forward and then you can lift it out. unplug the fans and take the panel out. You will see the coils. and underneath the coils, the drain pan. Mine was completely filled with ice. I used a hair dryer to melt it and remove the large chunks. Be gentle. Use a turkey baster to remove excess water. Then pour some very hot water in to clear the drain itself.

Clean the drain pan and drain line in the back of the freezer section underneath the evaporator coil. Make sure water drains when you pour it in. If it doesn't - also clean drain tube on the back of the unit behind the cover. When done - make sure to put the tube exactly where it was.
Good luck! :)

Water pooling under right front of refrigerator

is there any ice on freezer floor or is the bottom rack iced in?if so you have a blocked drain in the freezer,or if that's ok you could have a crack in one of the plastic water lines, also check the catch pan where the water drains into when the fridge defrosts, you can pour water down the drain in the freezer to check that, roll the fridge forward and take the bottom panel off the back, should be easier to check for leaks and take off the front kick panel, while you're in there vac out all the dust in there, front and back, you should do this every 6 months

Periodically, water flows out of the bottom of the freezer door and pools on the floor. The water supply for the icemaker isn't hooked up, so it can't be that.

This is the water coming from your defrost cycle. I'm not sure on this model, but the auto defrost will always generate some water. Some brands use a pan underneath that collects the water and then lets it evaporate, and some put the water in the condenser coil that's under the unit. Yours must have the line that runs from the freezer to the place it's supposed to go unhooked or misrouted. It could also be clogged inside the freezer.

Water leaking underneath refrigerator/water freezing in bottom of freezer

I'm dealing with the same problem right now with the same refrigerator. The cold water tank (for the front dispenser) has a hole in it that leaks every time someone dispenses water from the front door. You will find the water tank behind the top slide-out drawer in the fridge. The leaked water flows down one of the water tubes through a hole in the bottom of the fridge and onto the floor. I'll bet you have the same problem. Good Luck.

Check and make sure the drain pan under the refrigerator is in position and the drain hose is in the pan. If it misses the pan it will put water on the floor.
