I am trying to connect my lenovo laptop to the Comcast cable modem. I am using a usb connection. I keep getting the message "Windows was unable to install your Thomson USB CDC Device." "Windows could not find driver software for your device."

Unplug power and cable. Wait a few minutes. Reconnect it. There should be a reset in the back. Press it. It may take awhile to come back up. Test the connection with a CAT cable instead of wireless.

Contact Comcast it this fails.

Wow youve done almost everything here.How about the firewall? is it blocking any connections?

Next,Go to control panel,network and sharing center.Look and see if the pc or laptop in question is on the same network,meaning home or public.

Set all your machines to the same network.Either home or public.I do know this has been a win 7 problem.

If you are using lenovo laptop, try to go to control panel then programs and features and then uninstall lenovo readycomm. Restart your computer and check your wireless connection afterwards.

Do youe a dial-up service? or do you have a cable network?
This modem is for a cable system, like Comcast or Time Warner.

If you need a dial-up modem like the one in your laptop, then obtain a USB modem from Best Buy, Fry's, Office MAX/Depot:
like a "Zoom" or "SupraMax" or "US Robotics" brand, 56K v.92 modem.

Hi, forget about the USB connection since you wanted to use a router for your wireless connection. Contact Comcast asnd make sure they assist you in making your computer connect to the Internet using the ethernet connection because you are going to use the ethernet connection for the modem-router connection. Once your computer is online with the ethernet connection, you can connect your Dlink router to the modem and configure it for Internet connection. There will be more steps before you can use the wireless connection. Just make sure you can get online with ethernet connection first.

First try connection the Yellow ethernet cable from the rca modem to your computer's network connection. If you get a connection this way, then your modem will work with a ethernet cable. If not, then call Comcast for help. The modem ethernet out to computer port must be connected to the wan line of the router. Then you can connect an ethernet cable from your computer network connection to one of the 4 ports of the router. For wireless connections you must set up the router and wireless adaptor with the same settings to connect. Follow the routers directions.

A router is basically a mini-computer that splits up one internet connections to 4 (or whatever # of ports you have).

Basic Connections to a router:
A Router requires a internet connections, so your broadband modem must connect to the WAN port (theres only one) of the router DIRECTLY. Then Ethernet cables go from the router to the computers on the LAN ports. Don't do something weird like connecting your internet to your computer then your computer to the routers WAN port, it'll most likely mess up.

Once you have connected your router like this, it should work.

If your modem only has a usb port, I have no idea how to make that work out. Sorry. Try getting a new modem from your ISP, or check if your modem does have a ethernet port, if it does just connnect that to the routers wan port.

Also computers should not interconnect with each other with use of a router. Thats what the router is for. Everything gets connected and split up at the router, nothing connects to anything else but the router, basically.

i also have comcast and go threw the same thing .and if i go some wear els the pc works fine it is some thing with comcast un plug every thing then try again
