Washer stops spinning in the middle of the spin cycle
Sorry, I don't have a dependable MayTag. I have a GE Washer (Model #WPSF4170W0WW) and it has been working wonderfully until last week. Now, after spinning for about 5 to 10 seconds, the tub lurches sideways and stops spinning. I know it is not the belt, because we just replaced it and the problem still persists. Any suggestions??? Thanks loads!
No, the water does not come on. It is not a balance problem because it happens regardless of the size of the load or the wash cycle selected. Thanks for trying! soccermom93 here again. I investigated our washer problem a bit more and it may not be just a spin problem. The washer will complete an entire cycle, but it will only agitate or spin for 5 to 7 seconds at a time; it will sit idle for about 3 minutes in between short agitations. Could this be a problem with the clutch or the timer??? Thanks!soccermom93 here again. I investigated our washer problem a bit more and it may not be just a spin problem. Re: washer stops spinning in the middle of the spin cycle
Doe,s the water come on when it stops, it may have something to do with the balance of the washing load, if the water comes on it,s trying to rebalance it self.

The belt turn the pulley, but the height of the pulley is worn out so it didn't push up a mechanism to release the brake and to engage with the clutch to make the spin.
You have to takethe shaft out to study how it works then it makes sense on what I 'm talking.
The pulley cost only $11 but it is a major laboring exercise. It is a good learning to have hands on to this problem. Good luck on replacing the pulley.
Could be dirty bearings. As long as it is still spinning, it is nothing to worry about. If it suddenly stops one day, it is probably frozen bearings or the brushes in the motor.
well, you might have to get a new washer. It sounds like the control circut is going out and the door switch is also gone. it would cost about the same as a new washer. sorry.
