Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

Sony 40" LCD TV - I have a green solid indicator but the screen is not on. No picture at all. Why I use the remote to switch between standyby and on (ie. red and green indicator) I do not hear the usual sound screens make when they power on. The indicator changes to a solid green but the screen remains blank. TV is straight out of the box. TV is purchased overseas with me and brought back home so warranty replacement is not an option.

Contact Sony support thru their website.
I'm pretty sure they can help even if you bought it "over there"

I tried over the weekend and got the generic "..this problem is more suited for our helpline, please call freephone 0800blahblah... etc, etc..". Obviously 0800 numbers are not for international callers, I then replied and asked for a direct dial number so I could call without the freephone number, so far no reply.

I'll keep trying tho bud. I was just trying a few alternatives while I wait.
    Thx

It sounds that the panel is faulty. A plain green screen denotes it. If you're sound in electronics, and wish to get more details, check this link. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ Selecting the view option, either to Mosaic / Flip card, can be selected by the drop-down list, at the top left of the display window, will make surf easy. You can also do a search, by type in the brand name/model number/IC used, in the search box at the top right of the display window. Defective screen shots to LCD TVs are given by illustrations. You can compare it to that of your TVs' and can make confirm.

I have a sony KDL 46xBR2 when I turn on powers up green light stays on but a dark gray screen no picture or sound

The green light merely indicates that power is getting to your TV. The symptoms you describe point to internal power supply failure

Turn tv on. green light solid display, no picture or sound

The flashing green light is likely indicative of a self-test failure, indicating the TV has detected some sort of internal fault. With no picture or sound, one strong suspect is the power supply. Flat-panel TV's have an internal DC power supply that converts the inbound AC current, and when these fail, or are unable to supply a minimum level of power to the set, it can behave as you describe, providing only enough power for the green light to illuminate.

Standby LED blinks 4 times

Hi there,

4 blinks on a Sony Bravia indicates a backlight/inverter (aka ballast) problem. These ballasts are regrettably only available with an entire LCD panel. :( You may perchance be able to find a parts outfitter online that scraps out TVs and have a used ballast.

Typical backlight problem on an LCD shows up as the screen lighting up for a second or two and going back off. The 4 blinks just confirms your problem.

Green screen with sound from cable, but picture is fine with Wii

That would be my solution. The trouble is either in the box or your connecting cables. Verify this by connecting the cable directly to the set. Then try a new set of connecting cables, or call the cable provider to replace the box.
