The Xy button, 10 Xy 2 = 100 (10 x 10)

to do a neg exp you have two options, one use brackets if calculator has them.....

10 Xy (-2) = 0.01

or two inverse your number, ie: make 10 into 1/10th, use fraction entry on calculator.

1/10 Xy 2 = 10 Xy (-2) = 0.01

If by power, you mean exponents, there are several rules.

Multiplication with the same base - add the exponents

Division with the same base - subtract the exponents

Exponent to an exponent - multiply the exponents

Negative exponent - 1 over the same number to the positive exponent

Zero exponent - anything to the exponent 0 is 1

You probably want to calculate the numerical value of some mathematical expression with numbers raised to negative exponents.

Just enter the expression as you would with positive exponents Except that before entering the value of an exponent**press the change sign key, marked (-), or +/- or (+/-)**. Do not confuse the change sign with the usual minus sign, which is usually displayed bigger then the change sign. Make sure that the (-) is displayed before the value of the exponent. Use parentheses if necessary.

To rewrite an expression with positive exponents, you must use the identities

1/a^n=a^(-n) and 1/a^(-n)=a^n

Example: a^(-3)=1/(a^3)

To convert a whole expression, you scan it for negative exponents and start changing them one a time, until you get only positive exponents.

Depending on the expresiion you are dealing with you may have to use other rules, such as (a^n)^m= a^(n*m)

The same way you'd work with positive exponents. The only difference is that a negative exponent has a negative sign, entered with the (-) key just to the right of the decimal point.

You entered it correctly. Although you can leave out the parentheses if you want. The calculator will do exponents before it does multiplication or division just like it does multiplication and division before it does addition and subtraction. It has a built in order for hierarchy of operations. You only need to use parentheses if you want to do something that is different from this order. FYI, dividing by a negative exponent is the same as multiplying by a positive exponent. You could enter it in either way. .825/10^-3 = .825*10^3 = 825. I hope this helps you out.

Ex: 13.675 to the power 1.33 is entered as 13.675 [^] (1.33) [=].

The result is 32.41778634

Ex: (-64)[^](2/3) [=] gives 16 as result. The (-) is the change sign key

Ex: (2.87655)^(-6.778) is entered as 2.87655 [^] ( (-) 6.778 ) [=] 0.0007758

The (-) is the change sign (or the negative of), not the regular minus. When you have a negative exponent or a complicated exponent, it is safer to enclose the whole exponent inside parentheses.
