Question about GE Profile PSW26P Stainless Steel Side by Side Refrigerator

Kenmore Refrgierator is not cooling enough

I have 7 years old Kenmore Refrigerator Model 596.50392001. About 5 days back I felt door frame and magnet were extreemly hot which was due to bad condensor fan. I replaced the fan but now it's not cooling. Both compressor and condensor fan are running. However, I noticed that compressor is not making a loud sound. It does not even feel like it's running until you feel it with a hand. Freezer side is cooling and ice maker is working (about 2 to 4 cubes in an hour) but fridge is not cooling even dial is set to Coldest. Condensor coils is clean, I checked Evaporator fan and it's working. Evaporator coil has some frost build in to it. Do you think my compressor is about to die? or is there any leak?

Your help will be greatly appricated

Thank you in advance

Thank you very much for your prompt response. Frost is not on the entire surface, it more on the edges and very few in center. Compressor was replaced about 2 years ago by Sear. How much you think it would be to fix the leak? Sear is offering a protection plan for $251 plus taxes to take care of the servic call, labour and parts.

Once again thank you for your help and assitnace, May God bless you

Is the frost on the entire surface of the evaporator or just a portion. If it is only frosting on a portion there is a possibility your system has developed a leak and has lost some of the charge. Or your compressor has lost its ability to pump the gas. A bad condenser fan motor overtaxes the compressor and can cause premature failure. If it is a bad compressor it may be time to replace the refrigerator. Replacing the compressor is an expensive job and the warranty is only one year on a replaced compressor.

If a compressor was replaced two years ago I would not elect to go for a third. Replacing the refrigerator may cost a little more but it will be covered for the longer period. Some manufacturers now offer a ten year warranty.

Kenmore refrigerator stopped cooling 6 days ago and started working again 2 days later but not very cold.Stopped cooling again 2 days ago.Now it is frosted up in the back of the freezer,What could cause...

There are several things that could be causing this. Your compressor could be going bad. Your freon is low. Think of your refrigerator as a air conditioner. Pull it out and vacuum all the dust from your filters, make sure the water is draining properly and not clogged up. Is your unit still under warranty. How old is your unit. Try this. Unplug the unit for about 5-10 minutes, this will give it enough time for the compressor to cool down. Plug it back in and listen for the compressor to kick on. That's the big black round thing at the bottom in the back of your refrigerator. Listen to it and what the sound is, does it click when it turns on, does it shudder when it turns on. Let me know the sound. By unplugging the unit and doing this the compressor should kick on in 1-3 minutes after plugging it back in. If your unit is over 8 years old you might consider another one. Door to refrigerator will not close properly.

The refrigerator door seal is being broken when you open the freezer door? Sounds like the rubber magnetic strip needs to be replaced on the refrig. door, they wear out after a number of years.
