Question about Palm Treo 650 Handheld

No sound when making calls

I have a treo 650 and I can only use it to place calls out when my earpiece or my bluetooth is connected. I'm not sure why I can't hear songs from my real player without the earpiece or make calls.

I was thinking of taking it to the Sprint store for repair or another phone. I have insurance, just thought it was something that I was doing wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

There is no sound (on either side) though the call gets connected. The buttons tones are also gone. I have done soft as well as hard reset and nothing worked. So this seems more like a hardware problem. Any help for this would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, it's a hardware problem. I've seen it many time. The speakers on the Treos are flaky. Get a new phone under your insurance plan.

I can't hear the caller but the caller can hear me!

just need a new earpiece speaker or it simply needs to be adjusted into place. If there is no repair shop around you or you do not want to mess with it, then just buy a $20 bluetooth headset to bypass the whole earpiece.

How do I access Network Preferences on my Treo? My Treo (T-Mobile) is telling me to "Disconnet Data Connection in Network Preferences and DUN in Blue Tooth Manager." WTF!?!

Here;s the simple walkthrough to get to your Network preferences:

Turn on your Treo 650.
Press the "home" key (looks like a little house on the left of the directional pad).
Navigate to "Prefs" in the main screen.
In "Preferences", the Network preferences are under "Communication".
Since you're using T-Mobile, you'll see "T-Mobile Internet", "T-Mobile VPN", and "T-Zones" if you click on "Service". Make sure your handheld isn't locked though (you'll see the padlock closed).

In the Main screen you will also see Bluetooth. Access this and turn off your bluetooth radio.

One more thing...make sure you're using the latest firmware from Palm. There are features and capabilities that are necessary for your phone.

Go here:

Download and install the T-Mobile or Unlocked (which ever applies to your phone) firmware and follow the instructions completely.

Good luck.

Palm Treo 650 doesn't see bluetooth headsets, AND wired headphone jack is shorted

Had a similar problems. Throw out wired headsets with shorting problems. Their too cheap to try and fix.

Try rebooting the phone, then make sure the wireless headset is on. The trick is to get it into "trusted devices", so when you get the phone to seek new or nearby devices, you need to push the button on the earpiece so it sends a signal at the time the phone is trying to find it. It took me a number of trys, but finally got it to work. I use Verizon and they were quite helpful, even though the phone was "out of warrenty". I was re-activating my phone after not using it for a couple of years.

Palm treo 650

The 650 seems to have a delicate headphone/mic jack. Dropping the phone, even gently, seems mess up that jack. I returned my first treo 650 as defective, and got a new one. The same thing happened to my new 650 after I simply compressed the phone in my breast coat pocket by holding my mail against my chest.

I can't get a new one because the replacement treo comes with no warranty of any kind. :(

My advice would be to find a PDA/phone repair service to repair the jack or diagnose the problem if it turns out not to be the jack.
