I'm not sure if this is right but maybe you should try and clean the disk first.

Wii will not read disc: keeps saying an error has occured, remove disc and turn off wii, then read wii operations manual. done that and still have no solution. I have also replaced the batery for the wii....

You could buy the wii lense cleaning kit to wipe off the lenses if that doesnt work you could order a disk drive or wii laser replacement off of amazon or something and replace it which is like 60 bucks or you could send it to nintendo to get it fixed for 80 bucks.
If you do do it yourself its easier to replace the disk drive but more expensive than replacing just the laser but the laser is cheaper. Which evver one you do it takes a lot of time.

Unable to read disc message. I put the game disc into the WII and it won't play. Keep getting a 'Unable to read disc message for any game disc that I try to insert.

This can be caused by a dirty laser in the drive. Try cleaning the laser with a q-tip and alcohol. If this does not fix the problem, the laser may need to be replaced. Contact Nintendo and see if the unit is still under warranty.

Wii consolewill not read disc

In regards to your Wii not reading disks most likely your laser is dirty or you are having trouble with your drive its self.

They make a laser cleaning kit for the Wii you may try using to clean the laser. Note DO NOT USE a DVD/CD cleaner disk on the Wii. Only use ones that are made for game systems. Alot of times the lense for the laser is made different for game systems and if you use a standard one it can scratch the lense.

If this does not work then I would see if you are still in warranty. If you do then contact Wii support about getting an RMA.

If not you will need to look into replacing the drive. (There are several walk throughs on the Internet.) If you do not think you can do it your self then you may be able to find a local repair shop that can do it for you.

Hope this helps

I got my Wii recently, when i try to insert a disc to play a game, the error message "Error reading on disc, please refer to your nintendo operation manual", the display of this message, i can't do...

forcing the system to shut down won't cause problems. The main issue here is that the laser probably is bad in the drive.

Take a can of air and gently blow some into the drive. This will make sure that there is no dust or dirt on the laser.

Try to a few discs in the drive and if it still doesn't read it then that means the drive is bad and you would need to either replace the laser or the drive itself.

Wii fit plus game disc will not load up - it is a replacement - it seems to run and then stop and the 'please insert disc' message comes up - any ideas please?

Your laser reader inside of the Wii is either dirty or needs to be replaced. Try cleaning it with the following wet lens cleaner (NEVER use dry cleaners on Video Game Systems - it can ruin the laser). If this doesn't help, your laser or DVD drive inside of the Wii may need to be replaced. The same website sells the parts if you need it -- but if the disc is reading them stopping, it may just be a dirty laser lens:

I just bought a Wii last night and it is not reading "Wii Sports" it keeps saying an error has occured

It's one of two problems:

1. The Wii Sports disc is damaged. Did you try any other games? How does the back of the disc look? Do you know someone else with a Wii? Try another game [or try the Wii Sports disc on another Wii] to determine if it's the game, or the Wii. If it's the game disc -- simple, replace it. If it's the Wii:

2. The Wii laser/DVD drive could be messed up. This is usually a problem with either the laser inside of the Wii's drive, or some other issue going on inside of the DVD drive. The following website sells the DVD drive mechanisms and does repairs on the Wii as well:

Cannot read disc

If Wii gives Disc Read Error, first step you need to check is to try another disc or clean the exisitng disc. This will confirm that problem is with either Wii or Disc. If the console itself is giving disc read error then it needs to be repaired. You may check out DIY Wii Fix Guide, that will show step by step information to fix the problem yourself. It also gives information on fixing many Wii Related Problems, so its a kind of Wii Problems Reference Fix Guide...
