Toshiba 335CDT will not turn on

My fiancee has an old Toshiba 335CDT that will not turn on. No panel lights, nothing. The power supply checks out fine. I've tried with and without the battery in place. All she wants to do is get some old photos off the HD. Is there anything I can do short of a repair shop? Thanks!

Thanks, that will probably be my last resort. As a musician, I'm pretty good at DIY with electronics, so I was hoping for a more "hands-on" solution.

Sure...take the drive to a data recovery specialist, and they will peel those images off, for around 100.00 and put them on cd or dvd

Is there a power input fuse on a Toshiba Satellite C655D?

no, there is no internal fuse, unfortunately- because this sounds like a dead motherboard. the aftermarket power supply could have been over-volting, or delivering unsteady power- burning the motherboard.

OR the old power supply shorted, and blew the motherboard's power circuitry, and you were just running off battery power when you first got the replacement.

please keep in mind that, at times, the physical power input jack on laptops can also break, or come loose from the motherboard.

Toshiba L750D Laptop won't turn on, no power light nothing,

Could be a faulty power supply. Try getting a universal replacement and see if that works. Take the laptop to a computer store and see if they have one for you to try before you buy.

Any damage? Drop? You get Nothing? No fan spin? No LED's blink? Nothing? You didn't supply the Toshiba model or the OS? How old? Is it time to replace the CMOS battery?

Restore to orignal OS system and drivers

Your only hopes, given that Microsoft stopped supporting Windows 98 a few years ago:

* contact Toshiba, and see if you can still order the disks

* look on places like www.eBay.com or www.CraigsList.org
and post a "wanted" ad.

Personally, I would *NOT* connect any computer running Windows 98 to the Internet -- it would get "hacked", probably quickly.

Will not switch on. The light does not come on when plugged in at the mains

check the power supply, most have a little light on. might sound daft but if its a uk plug or has a fuse fitted in the plug that may have gone. try a different power supply, maybe take to a computer store and just ask them if they will try it on one of their power supply's as a test, of it works you can get multi fit power supplies quite cheap from well known auction sites. if it turns out it is not the power supply, it could be a fault on your main board, a fault with the power in socket (i have a toshiba and the pin inside the socket always breaks off, ive changed it several times) or more commonly to the older generation laptops, it ould be the battery. sometimes the battery completes the charging circuit, again knock off batteries maybe found cheap from well known auction sites, and alothough not always of great standards, they are better than paying toshiba for one and finding its a board problem.

My toshiba 2455-s305 wont boot up

If you are familiar with your laptop, i.e. the locations of hard drive, try to take it out of the its bay and put it back again. Also, if you can have someone check your battery packs, because from my experience with this laptop, when the battery packs is not charging well, i got some booting up problems.
