Question about Whirlpool GY398LXPS Electric Kitchen Range

E2 -F3- I was cooking a turkey at 325 degrees for 5 hours.  When the timer went off and I checked the turkey the oven coil glowed orangy and then beeped 3 times and displayed E2 -F3-

The F3 E2 error code indicates that the electronic oven control board in the range senses an over-temperature condition in the oven.

This can be caused by a failed temperature sensor probe, a wiring problem between the sensor and the control board, or a failed electronic oven control board.
If the oven is apparently not overheating when this error code appears, then your likely failure is the temperature sensor probe.
If the oven is overheating, then you likely have a failed electronic oven control board due to a stuck relay not cycling the oven heating element off properly.

Whirlpool F3 faults relate to temperature problems in the oven. In the case of the error E2-F3, F3 is the general fault code and E2 is the specific error code. Between 300 degrees and 350 degrees for 4 to 5 hours. Add one hour if the turkey is stuffed.

But they recommend 375 and I find that the turkey is much better at 325. The Rival manual suggested 375 for pre basted or 350 for fresh 9-14 minutes per pound. In my experience this is too hot. I use 325 for 4 to 4 3/4 hours at 325 for an 18 pound turkey; a 21 pounder takes about 35-45 minutes more. Do start checking the end temp with your instant read thermometer about a half hour before it "should" be done.
The USDA now uses 165 as the end point temp (down quite a bit from a few years ago), but if you stuff, that has to be in the middle of the stuffing, and the turkey will overcook somewhat while it gets there. All experts agree that turkeys cook better and safer if unstuffed, so considering that you will have to make an extra pan of stuffing to have it for everyone, you would be well advised to cook your turkey unstuffed and use some of the drippings to flavor the pan of stuffing while the turkey rests.

This turkey is right on the edge of the size recommended for this roaster, so first, check the fit- you need about an inch all around including the top to get good cooking. Any place it touches the sides it will tend to overcook.

New Rival 22qt. Roaster Oven


If you want to use it for food tomorrow, you need to burn it in tonight; 1 hour or longer at 400 degrees, outside but protected, to burn off the factory oils, etc. If you cook in it without doing this, you will ruin the food (and the atmosphere) with bad smells.

This turkey is really bigger than Rival recommends for this roaster, so check the size/fit tonight, also. You need an inch all around for best cooking.

I use 325, not 375 as the Rival manual suggests, 4 hours for an unstuffed 18 pounder.

Convection cooking


Convection ovens are great for roasting!
I cooked a 15 lb  stuffed turkey in 2 hours in mine. And it was juicy and fab!
My auto degree set for convection  is 325.
I have a Jenn Air wall oven, so I don't know, it might be different for different brand.
Roast or bird should be in the middle of the oven. THe air has to circulate well to get best results.
I believe rule of thumb is a convection oven takes 1/2 LESS time than conventional.

Whirlpool GW395LEPQ console is completely black and E2 and F3 err


If digits on control board does not shows up after resetting power you need a new control board(part# 9760013 $174.20).
sensor for this model(part# 4455636 $89.78)
