I want to fix it preferably. Surely if I dropped it it can only be a case that something has come loose or disconnected?

I have managed in last half hour to get keyboard out, and made sure all the connections of things I could see were connected. Still then same. The processing light is still perm on, and after logging on nowt else happens........

It sounds like you may have damaged the hard drive. Can you get the thing to come up to the point that you can run any diagnostics?

Slow, stalls, freezes up

If your hard drive is too full, then your computer is going to perform slower. Delete old files which are not required.

Remove programs that you are no longer using. Delete temporary files.

Empty your recycle bin. Right click on Recycle Bin. Click Empty Recycle Bin>Yes.

Run an error check on your computer. The error check can remove errors that slow down your computer. If you are using Windows, you can do this by clicking Start>My Computer. Right click on your hard drive (typically c:) and then select Properties. Click the Tools tab>Check Now and then Start.

Clean up your registry. You can purchase software that will fix any registry errors on your computer.

Perform this computer maintenance on a weekly basis.

Slow downloading and slow general usage

If the computer has always been slow, then yes additional RAM will help. If you are running XP, 1 Gb or ram runs great, 2 Gb runs a touch better. If you are running Vista, I highly recommend moving to 2 Gb.

If the computer is generally getting slower and slower, then it just needs a tune-up/clean-up. I am assuming you are not computer savvy, so I would suggest calling a local computer shop. Ask them for a general cleanup service on your computer. Do not pay more than $100.

» Uninstall Existing Dell™ Printer Drivers
Before reinstalling any printer drivers, it is necessary to remove any printer drivers that were previously installed. Not doing so can cause problems that prevent the computer from communicating with the printer. To uninstall previous printer drivers:
  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Disconnect the USB cable from the back of your Dell printer, click the Start button, point to All Programs, point to Dell™ Printers and then point to the listing of your Dell printer and then click the Uninstall Dell Printer icon.
  3. When the Dell Printer Uninstall confirmation window appears, click Yes. This process may take several minutes to complete. Do not attempt to power off the computer at this time.
  4. When the Dell Printer Uninstallation window appears (Figure 1), click to select the Yes, I want to restart my computer right now (recommended) option, then click OK. (The system automatically shuts down and restarts.)

After the system restarts, the printer uninstallation process is complete.
new_note.jpg Note: Do not reconnect the USB cable to the printer until after you have downloaded and reinstalled the printer's drivers.
