    I have the same problem.

The DVD recorder was recording a DVD and recorded past the 2:04 hour mark, which has not caused problems in the past.

Then the display showed SAFE, and the whole VR320 unit froze. The DVD won't eject, and none of the front buttons work, except Power. Powering down for 12 hours didn't help. I opened up the unit and took the DVD out, but that did not help. I'm ready to chuck the unit. The VCR part crapped out after 1 year, anyway.

Same here, and it is not even a listed troubleshoot in the owner's manual. This product is a piece of junk and I regret buying it. As soon as I figure out how to fix this. I will post it.

To remove "SAFE" from the front display, using the remote control, press and hold "INFO" for 5 seconds until it disappears. This was probably acitivated while you stopped a recording which can trigger it, of you may have activated "Safe" by pressing the INFO button several times. This is to prevent access of the recorder by locking all controls. This is for the DVD Recorder/VCR combo VR320 and the 1st generation DvD Recorder DVR-130.

Even though this was a product I regret purchasing, it isn't as bad a people make it out to be. It works best with DV cable recording from 1 Hour Mini-DV tape camcorders to 1 Hour XP Record DVD mode. It is probable one of the best. Only issue I have is when you try playing a finalized DVD-R disc in another DVD player, there is a chance it might not work because of the Highest quality 1 Hour record mode. Standard is 2 Hour SP. You will have to burn an exact copy using DVD copy software on your computer to DVD-R. This will fix the problem.

How to eliminate error screen:"your tv does not allow display of this program through the dvi input source. please chose another tv input source."

"cable box to tv is hdmi cable"

Everything I've read on the web says cable box to tv connection must also use component (rgb) cables. The error is coming from the cable box (STB). All the Scientific Atlanta (SA) cable boxes seem have this Digital Rights Management (DRM) bug and the only way to be totally rid of the error is to replace the digital connection from box to the TV with an analog connection.

Safe mode

The safe mode on Sanyo VCRs locks out the buttons on the machine. Try using the remote. To turn off the safe mode, look for a button on the remote labeled "Safe."
