Question about Arris SURFboard SB5120 Modem

Dropping connection I also had no problems until my cable company was bought out. Then my system started to drop signal. Literally every 5 - 10 minutes. I have to unplug the modem for 30 sec. to reestablish connection or restart the computer. I have had the cable company check the hard line and they say signal is good. The modem is a sb5120 Surfboard. The system is a dual Pentium 4 and the hook up is usb and acting as network host. Here is my connection info Downstream Value Frequency 597000000 Hz Signal to Noise Ratio 36 dB QAM QAM256 Network Access Control Object ON Power Level -2 dBmV The Downstream Power Level reading is a snapshot taken at the time this page was requested. Netgear D7000 modem keeps dropping offline

Cordless phones, microwave ovens and wireless surveillance cameras between the modem and the device will do it. If it's hard wired to the computer, the signal strength from the phone company may be low. Call the phone company to have them come out and test the signal level that is applied to the modem.

Cooling system

Raise the car front end as high as possible with a floor jack, fill the coolant tank to the top, run the engine until it reaches just short of overheating, shut it down and run water over the radiator, this will burp the air out. Repeat as needed. Don't let the coolant recovery tank run dry during procedure.

Video Telconferencing drops at various times

If you changed providers I bet they forgot to provide disconnect signal on your lines.

This signal is sent to your system from the provider when a calling party hangs up and is transferred to VM.

A good tech with his phone should be able to see this while on monitor. You will need a system tech to verify this. Most likely it's the provider.

Typically between 450 and 900 ms. The higher the better.

Signal drops out, displays "No Signal"

My best guess is the signal to the Cable box. It is not a hardeware problem if you replaced the box it has to be the cable signal. Loose connections are sometimes the problem.

the modem is working fine. the connection might be dropping from the router side.
You can try to upgrade the Firmware of the router.
reduce the MTU on the router. If it is on 1500 the reduce it to 1400.

My internet connection keeps dropping every 2 minutes!!

That particular series of HP computers has a recall with an extended warranty for just this problem. Call HP, they will have you go through all the first line cures but tell them you know of the extended warranty for lost wireless problems. They'll replace the mother board. Make sure you back up all your data when you send it in. I've sent them nearly a dozen and some they reformatted the hard drives.

Losing connection

I assume this is a cable modem? You need to call your cable company and have a trouble ticket created. I worked for the cable company installing cable for quite a while and I bet my paycheck the signal getting to the modem are below specs and that's why the modem gets dropping the internet connection.

Hope this helps.
