A crackling, popping sound occurs randomly on my Panasonic 42in plasma TV. What gives -- there is no rhyme or reason as to when it occurs.

Same problem here. It's only about 5 weeks old. Just started last night.

Same problem. First the TV used to shut itself off randomly now it snaps, crackles and pops.

I have a new 50" Panasonic Viera, have had it since the new model came out in April/08. Just lately within the past 5 weeks my TV has started with this random pop sound. Sometimes I won't hear anything for hours, other times I hear it every 5 minutes. I bought Panasonic Viera because I heard it was the best... It's starting to get annoying...

From the article linked in the solution:

"I have Panasonic th50px77u plasma. I noticed an electronic noise coming from the back on the set. I noticed it was coming from the upper left hand side (as you look at it from in front of it).

I called Panasonic and then called a local service company. They came out and opened it up and we heard the noise and isolated it to the “SS” board. They tried spraying it with some liquid plastic to resolve it. No luck they ordered the part which took about 10 days and installed it today. All seems fine now so far.

What they replaced was an “xboard” as they called it. The old part was TNpa4187 ss board. The new part was PN txnss1hmtujs SS board and it looks like a small mother board."

Sound from the panasonic viera 50inch full hd is crackling

Check its speaker/s first. If found OK, check and replace the damaged component/s at its audio output section circuit, or replace the audio output section circuit as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Viewing it in "Mosaic" will make surf easy.

If this set is under warranty you should return it to get it repaired/replaced by the seller. Do not let the silly sounds cost you the price of the set. Return now.

After disconecting the power cable from the outlate, ploget back in and the tv dos not come on. red light blinking constantly

that it is likely a power supply problem. It starts with a loud popping or crackling noise and then the set goes dead, except for a flashing red light on the front. best thing to do here is to unplug it from the power for a good min or 5 make sure the TV is not hot and try plugging it back in , also Plasma TVs and Samsung have had this problem for a long time this is the info i found for you.

The Panasonic Viera 50-inch plasma TV has received rave reviews from the media and consumers alike. Panasonic encountered problems with its plasma TVs last year, both due to degradation of the picture quality over time, which was much publicized due to a class action lawsuit filed over that defect, and for a power supply issue that was far less publicized, but for which there are many negative reviews online. So far this year, though, the reviews have been much more positive. I would like to share, however, that my experience has been less than positive in hopes of helping others who have had the same problem and in providing another viewpoint for those considering purchasing this TV.

Sound distortion comes and goes...

First of all, try to have this repaired under warranty. Usually these sets have a 1 year warranty. Second, make a recording of the problem. That will help the servicer to understand the problem.

If you are not successful at the warranty repair, the first thing to look for is a power supply problem or poor connections at the audio amp area. I will attempt to locate more details while you persue the warranty claim.

Please keep us posted.

Thanks,
Dan

Just bought a 50 panasonic viera, when we hook up ps3 on hdmi cable, we have sound but no picture.

Plasma TV normally do not have the resolution required for PS3 unless the plasma TV is fullHD( 1920x1080p) pixels.

HD Ready Plasma = 1024 x 768p
PS3 Outputs = (fullHD)1920x1080 or (HDReady) 1280 x 720p.

LCD TV accepts the resolution matches the resolution the PS3 is outputting.

Panasonic 50 inch plasma

You should call for warranty service. If the set is very new try to get it exchanged.

There are some very heavy duty power supplies and many high power matrix drivers used in Plasma sets.

The description sounds like the noises are very loud. It is normal with any of these TV sets, if you put your ear right up to the back of the set at the vent holes you will hear some noises. These would be some acoustic harmonics from the power supplies and related circuits.

I am wondering if it is possible that there is something that is becoming less stable. If the set is working very well without any failure, so-far this is a very good sign. Before it gets to be a problem, I would have this checked.

On many models of these sets, they use fans for cooling specific areas. A bad fan can cause noise.
