Question about Kenmore Dryers

Open Question

Hello, Kenmore 70 series model 11096573220. Dryer will start up but then starts to make a whining noise then stops. It will start back up after letting it sit for awhile. I removed the cabinet, drum, & cleaned off the motor. I did notice the rear seal/felt was almost gone at the rear of drum. The rollers spin freely & I can turn the motor easily by hand. The drum rocks up & down a bit but don't know if that's normal. Any help & advice is much appreciated.

SOURCE: makes squeaking noise after running for about 10 minutes

there are 2 drum rollers at the back of the dryer. shut off power, pull drum and you will see 2 rubber wheels. there is a little plastis triangle that keeps the roller in place. try spinning the rollers . they probably will not spin too freely. remove triangles ,inspect inside of roller the stainless steel bearing may have gunk on it try to clean off . also check shaft roller rides likewise remove any debri use a little rubbing alcohol to remove gunk. also check the idler roller that routes the belt for the same things. good luck

SOURCE: motor runs but drum doesnt spin

The belt may have broken, you must open the dryer case and check the belt. If broken, you'll see it laying on the bottom

SOURCE: Dryer won't start

The problem is likely a malfunctioning centrifugal start switch in the motor.

More info, let me know.

SOURCE: Hotpoint VTD00 Tumble dryer. Motor runs ok without

The motor is bad and needs replaced. It could be the contacts or the bearings, either way you have to replace the motor.

Check the vent for clogs and kinks. Could be something in the blower wheel causing the noise and blocking the vent.
Remove the vent from the back of the dryer, unplug the dryer, and reach inside the dryer vent to check for items lodged in the blower housing.

I have a Kenmore Series 70 dryer wont start, just hums

Check for correct voltage at the terminal block on the back of the dryer, where the power cord attaches to the dryer. You should be getting 220/240 volts, check by way of a voltage tester.
If the voltage is correct, then could be the motor capacitor or the motor itself, or start button?
Good Luck !

i would guess you have something stuck in the pump.
you will need to remove the cabinet and then find the hoses going into the pump. when you remove the hoses, you will find something inside the pump causing the noise.
