Question about HP Compaq nx9020 Notebook

2 Answers

Opening laptop Hi there, I have a compaqnx9020 laptop. I am trying to open the laptop up but when i remove all the screws that are visible, the unit still remains sealed, which leads me to believe that there must be screws underneath some of the keys on the keyboard. Are you aware of such a problem and if so, which keys are the screws located under?? Many thanks for your help

Remove the two screws on the back of the hinge covers. then pry off the speaker panel/buttons in front of the screen. there are three screws that hold the keyboard in place. remove those and then remove the keyboard. there are two screws under the keyboard in the center of the unit. Remove those. There are also 3 screws that can only be removed if you pop out the hard drive. Hope this helps. I have had mine apart many times

Computer was locked

Resetting the CMOS password on an Acer Aspire laptop is much more difficult than resetting the password on a desktop.
Disassembly steps vary from model to model, but on most models, you'll have to take apart the computer to access the CMOS battery.
Don't take apart the notebook if you don't have experience disassembling PCs.
After turning off the computer and disconnecting the AC adapter, take out the battery (different from the CMOS battery).
All visible screws must then be removed from the bottom of the notebook.
Remove all components stored to their separate compartments on the base of the notebook.
Turn over and open the PC. Lift up the switch cover and remove the screws securing the keyboard to the PC, if any are visible.
Remove the keyboard.
Remove the screws securing the monitor to the hinges, and then set the monitor aside.
Disconnect all visible cables connected to the motherboard; and then remove the screws from the top cover.
Remove the top cover to reveal the motherboard. Locate and then remove the CMOS battery. Leave it out of the notebook for 24 hours; then reinstall it and reassemble the Acer Aspire.
Other Options
If removing the CMOS battery fails to clear the password, or if you dont feel comfortable with the idea of opening your computer, you might be able to gain access to the computer using a backdoor password.
These special passwords were implemented to allow technicians to access locked computers. Not all models recognize backdoor passwords.
Most Acer Aspires use the Phoenix BIOS, and backdoor passwords for this BIOS include BIOS, CMOS, phoenix and PHOENIX.
All of these passwords are case-sensitive.

Bios password

Hi!

Bios password, time, date and other user settings are keeped in a CMOS powered by a 3V battery.

Removing this battery for a couple of minutes resets the BIOS password and also the time and date.

It's very easy to do so in a Desktop PC, because the battery is visible on the motherboard after opening the case, and it can be removed simply by using a non-metal tool, even a toothpick.
But it is complicated at laptops, because accessing the motherboard means taking the whole thing appart, and that requires some tools and skills.
In both situations (desktop and laptop) the power cord must be disconected before opening the case, and of course the laptop battery should be also removed.

My advise is if you are not experienced with opening the case of a laptop, to ask a qualified person to do that.

Good luck!

Hello, I have an e-system 4213 laptop with a wobbly power connection. It probably just needs a bit of solder. I've removed the battery, disc, and every visible screw, but I can't get the machine to...

The top half and bottom half of the case may be clipped together besides being held together with screws.
There may be additional screws in the battery compartment or the DVD/CD drive slot.
Try separating both halves by pulling it apart near the battery opening or the DVD/CD drive slot.

Can't get the back cover off a MPC transport 2300 laptop, removed all visible screws

The remain screw is under the Keyboard, to open it, you need to open the lid around the keyboard unit, it use only a small clip, with small screw driver you can lift up the lid.

To do this, please be careful, it's a small things..

CAN YOU TELL ME HOW TO INSTALL EXTRA MEMORY IN MY ACER ASPIRE 5315 LAPTOP HOW DO I REMOVE THE KEYBOARD ETC

The memory is under the laptop. Turn the back, remove the battery, you will see alot of small screws, loose them all one after the other. But if you want to loose the memory, you do not need to remove all the screws, look very well you a cover that has about one or two screws, there you will find the memory. Also you will see a screw under the DVD/CD Drive, you need to loose the screw first before you can remove the drive.

As for the keyboard, after loosing the screws from under, turn the laptop back up, open the flip, try removing the front cover, before you can reach the keyboard. After opening the cover, you need to remove the keyboard flex carefully.

After loosing the screws, you might find it a bit difficult to open the laptop cover, you will need force to open it, but becareful so the nothing will get spoilt or broken.

It's very simple, just make sure all screws are loosed before you try opening.

I wish you the best.

Trying to open it up?!?

In addition to the screws visible outside the case, you need to get at screw(s) underneath the keyboard. By removing the hinge cover/speaker faceplate, you can remove the screws holding the keyboard in, and lift the keyboard out to get at the last screw(s).

Trouble seperating top cover from base/mobo / asus f3s notebook

Have you removed the keyboard, sometimes there is a screw under the keyboard that holds the top and bottom of the case together.
Most laptops have clips/indents that clips top and bottom half of the case together. Start on one side, preferrably at an opening where the CD/DVD drive is located and gently apply pressure to separate the case along that edge. Once you free a catch/clip start working along that edge and continuing around to each side of the case.

Opening a Gateway Solo 2150 laptop

I found the answer on another wed site. I tried it on my Gateway Solo 1500 and it works! The extra screws are hidden on top. You carefully remove the small face plate around the power button. I used a very small screw drive to lift it off.

Opening Gateway Solo 1400

I'm also an A+ certified tech, but I've done notebook service for a lot of years. I just finished opening up a Gateway Solo 1400 and it was NOT easy! There are no screws holding the keyboard on the bottom of the machine. You can get the case open about 95% and there will be one area stuck, in the back near where the screen cable goes into the unit. There is a hidden screw on the top of the case next to the hinge. To get to it, you have to remove the two screws that hold the plastic hinge cover and pry off the cover. I only managed to find it after removing the keyboard, the display, and the panel with the LEDs and power button. (The screws holding the keyboard are on the top of the machine, underneath the cover with the power button on it.)

You've to see at the back of your notebook, you have to unscrew that say say KB. Incase it is not written then unscrew all the top and middle screw. Some model after unscrew you have to remove the front panel first before removing keyboard or some model remove the front panel and KB screw is underneath it.By saying Front panel, I mean the panel at top where you press power-on button and all.
