SOURCE: doesn't cool

Hi, Yes, If the evaporator was not frozen over then I agree with you. The unit has lost its refrigerant charge. The only thing you can do is to have a licensed refrigeration man find the leak, repair it and recharge it or replace the refrigerator. If the evaporator is frozen over the defrost timer would be the problem. In this case, manually defrost it and it will be good for a few days until you get it replaced. kstfas

Motor running lights on but fridge freezer not cooling/freezing

YOUR FRIGE BECAME NOISY? HAVE YOU CLEANED OUT THE FINS LOCATED EITHER UNDER THE FRONT OF YOUR FRIDGE, OR AROUND BACK BEHIND A CARDBOARD PANEL? DUST LINT ANIMAL HAIR AND OTHER DEBRIS CAN AND DO GET SUCKED UP BY A SMALL FAN THAT IS INTENDED TO REMOVE THE HEAT FROM THE COMPRESSOR AND THE REFRIGERANTE CYCLING THROUGH THE CONDENSER ON ITS WAY TO THE EVAPORATOR TO CHILL THE INSIDE OF THE FRIDGE DOWN. IF ENOUGH OF THIS CONDENSER IS BLOCKED FOR A LONG ENOUGH PERIOD IT CAN CAUSE THE COMPRESSORS VALVES TO BECOME WORN OUT PREMATURELY. YOU MAY ALSO HAVE A BIT OF SOMETHING IN THE FAN BLADE OR THE FAN MOTOR MAY BE BAD. WAS THE NOISE INSIDE OF THE FRIDGE? IT COULD BE THE EVAPORATOR FAN HAS A PROBLEM. IF ICE BUILDS UP IN SIDE OF THE FRIDGE WHERE THE EVAP FAN THAT BLOWS THE COLD AIR AROUND THE COMPARTMENT HAS NOT BEEN CLEARED OF THE ICE THAT IS COLLECTED ON IT BY ANOTHER DEVICE KNOWN AS A DEFROST TIMER IT MAY HAVE CAUED IT TO HIT THIS BUILD UP ON THE EVAPORATOR. IF THE NOISE WAS NOT INSIDE THEN DO NOT LOOK AT THIS, IT IS ONE OF THE AFORE MENTIONED ITEMS. YOU CAN CLEAN MOST OF THE DUST/HAIR ACCUMMULATIONS OUT WITH A VACCUMM AND EXTENSION WAND. IF THOSE ARE NOT HANDY A AIR COMPRESSOR OR A SHOPVAC WITH EITHER THE SUCTION SIDE OR THE BLOWER SIDE WILL ALSO WORK IF A EXTENSION WAND AND NARROW WAND ARE AROUND. IF U ELECT TO USE A AIR COMPRESSOR OR BLOW IT OUT WITH A SHOPVAC DO IT OUTSIDE HA HA.

Cut everything off for a few minutes then turn it back on and listen for a click from the compressor relay as the compressor tries to start.
Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay. Check to see if the condenser fan at the back underneath near the compressor is running. If no check fan.

Are the condenser coils near there warm or room temp. should be warm

Is the evaporator fan in the freezer running. It blows cold air into the fridge side through a damper in the wall between the freezer and fridge. Make sure the damper is open.

Below the evaporator fan is the evaporator coils. Remove the back cover in the freezer to observe the frost pattern. Light frost everywhere(NORMAL) or a partial pattern of ice(LOW ON FREON) or nothing(LOW FREON OR COMPRESSOR PROBLEM).

No cooling, coils frosting up, defrosted with blow dryer several days ago and cooling fine again, but frost is building up rapidly again. I suspect a defrost heater, please confirm and where to order a...

The evaporator (inside) coil can ice up for the following (typical) reasons. Check the ones that you can and hire a professional refrigeration technician if you can't find the problem yourself.

1. Thermostat isn't shutting off. (Does the compressor run continuously? Can you turn the compressor off while it is running by turning the freezer temp control down (but not off)?

2. Internal fan (evaporator fan) is not blowing air. Possible causes: fan blades hitting something; debris blocking air flow; fan motor bad; no power to fan.

3. Low refrigerant (freon) charge. Need a technician for this one.

You can get thermostat or fan motor at a local appliance parts store. Try googling "appliance parts <yourzipcodey>"

If this was helpful, please select YES to the first two RATINGS questions. Good Luck!

The bottom half of the fridge/freezer is cool, but not the top half. What's wrong . This is a side by side.

The evaporator fan inside the freezer usually behind the back panel circulates the cold air and blows it into the fridge. Make sure it's running when the compressor runs. And make sure the fan can blow the air into the fridge through the vent.

DFSB483 Side by Side Inlay Viking Refrigerator not cooling

The unit should not need to be pulled out diagnose it.

At the bottom on the rear inside wall of the Freezer can you see any signs of frost build up?
If there is then it is more than likely the defrost terminator

When you open the freezer door can you hear the fan blowing in the freezer?
If not then the Evaporator fan could,be bad and need replacing.

If there is no frost and the fan is running, try turning the unit off and then back on, the power off switch is accessed by removing the center grill of the top grill. There are 2 switchs in this compartment. If you flick the switch and the lights stay on this is the wrong switch, flick it back and find the other switch, power the unit off and then back on. What you should here is first the fans come on followed by the compressor, it will take about 6mins for this to happen. If the compressor is running and you have no cooling then you have a sealed system issue and you ned to get a certified personnel to come and make the repair.

You may have a bad evaporator fan.Or it is obstructed. The other thing may be that the evaporator coil is frozen.(Iced up)Which may be caused by a bad defrost switch.
