Question about Lithonia Lighting Psq500 Power Sentry Inverter Charger

Open Question

I had a Psq500 Power Sentry ballast that caught on fire. This is the follow up response from the local electrcian "This was a very old ballast. It was actually the emergency lighting ballast (the one that runs on a battery so that incase the lights go out, one bulb will remain running on the battery power of the emergency lighting ballast), so he figured that the battery somehow short circuited in the fixture, causing it to start smoking and eventually cause a few flames. This was a very rare, one time occurrence." Asked if all other ballasts should be inspected or if this was an indication that the others will be going out soon and potentially causing the same issues in other fixtures and he told me "no on both accounts." Have you experienced this before?

SOURCE: no power to lighting ballast

Follow the appropriate wiring exactly. There are about 6-8 different diagrams. Find your lamp type and number of lamps. Locate your ballast type (usually instant these days) Quite often these diagrams show a switch on the power lead going to the operating ballast. If it isn't on a switch be sure to wire it in with the lead to the emergency battery ballast.

Loud sound when it is on

Cooling fans can sometimes be a source of noise, as can loose windings on the transformer. If it is not overheating and funtions normally, the noise is just something to live with. It is not always considered a defect, but you can ask the vendor about it.

JVC DLP MOD#HD55G466 what is the voltage from power supply to ballast and into the lamp.I have no voltage to the lamp could it be ballast?

Hi,
Ballast board gets voltage from power supply connector CN90BL and volts readings are as follows:
Pin-1 = 380V DC
Pin-2 = Ground
Pin-3 = 15V DC
and output of ballast board would be 12,000 volts AC that goes to lamp to generate spark in its electrodes to produce high bright light.

If you get volts on input of ballast board but still lamp does not fire up then ballast board is not working.
Ballast board part number is QAL0765-001 and available with tv-part.com for $125
Hope these info will help you.
Thanks.

I need a lithona lighting power sentry psdl3 wiring diagram

http://www.lithonia.com/SpecSheets.aspx

Lithona has a lot of products and they show the manuals.
Unlike a lot of companies where manuals are not available, as if customers live in the 1980's and still write to companies asking for information.

I don't see your speicific product at Lithona.

A search for 'power sentry' turned up many possible products.
Unlike a lot of sites that just say, 0 results.

Many times, the same product will have more than 1 name or product-number depending on who is selling the product >>> that's how different companies can sell the same product but claim their product line is unique.

You might search the manuals at Lithona and find a similar product under a different name or number.

The florescent ceiling light in my kitchen takes a long time to turn on after flipping the switch. It is a lithonia light model# 764123

Flourescent Lights use a 'starter' to build up a charge which then jolts them to life. It sounds like your starter is struggling to do the job. The starter is usually located on the side of the light casing and looks like a cylinder which partly protrudes from the case. It twists and comes out and is easily replaced.

Kill power to light and emergency single light does not turn on also with power on push test knob and emergency bulb not come on

Hello Ramon, Check the power back (battery cell) as without a functioning battery pack, the emerbency light won't function.

Typically the batery packs will need to be replaced periodically every 4-5 years, depending on the istallation location and ambient temperatures.

When you kill the power to the emergency lighting circuit the PSQ is switched to operate automatically on battery power only. The same thing occurs when you press the test button; it disconnects the lighting from the electric power that keeps the battery charged and ready for service. You might also want to check the bulbs with a test meter (remove the bulbs from the fixture and test with the Ohm setting) While rare that these bulbs burn out, since they aren't usually illuminated often, only during a power disruption/outage, etc.

Here's a link to the Lithonia site with the spec sheets for the PSQ series of emergency lighting products, for your use and reference.
