Question about D-Link Vonage-enabled Wireless Router (VWR-VR)

1 Answer

My computer (Windows XP installed) has working internet connection via Comtrend CT-361 ADSL modem. I'm trying to use D-Link VWR-VD device (currently just as wired router). I've plug all according to instuction (the router is connected with Ethernet card of my computer), provided PPPoE username/password to the router (via web interface by 192.168.15.1). Unfortunatelly my computer cannot connect to internet. Can you help me?

Change the setting in the router to accept any connection.
you will have to log into the router to do this.

Which setting do you mean? I reset the router settings and entered my PPPoE username and password.

DHCP stands for Dynamic Host Control Protocol. The Vonage VWR Device has a built-in DHCP server. The DHCP Server will automatically assign an IP address to the computers on the LAN/private network. Be sure to set your computers to be DHCP clients by setting their TCP/IP settings to “Obtain an IP Address Automatically.” When you turn your computers on, they will automatically load the proper TCP/IP settings provided by the Vonage VWR Device. The DHCP Server will automatically allocate an unused IP address from the IP address pool to the requesting computer. You must specify the starting and ending address of the IP address pool.
    1. go to the "home" tab make sure that "Enable DHCP " is bulleted
    2. Enter starting IP is: example: 192.168.15.2 / Ending address is: example 192.168.15.254
    3. click "apply" at the bottom of the page
    4. make sure you have "lease time" entered also.
    5. I also see that you router has been discontinued by the manufacturer.
    6. read the web page ...http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=VWR-V...
    7. download/save manual to your hard drive here >>>>>>http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=VWR-V...
    8. click the link "product manual"
    9. make sure you have downloaded and installed all firmware update for
    your router.

    Trouble shooting:
If your Internet connection doesn’t work:
Appendix A Of the users manual
You can solve many installation issues by resetting all of your equipment:
    1. First, power down in this order:
    a. Computer (shut down properly, it is not necessary to disconnect power to your computer)
    b. Vonage Device (unplug power cord from back of device)
    c. Router, if you have one (unplug power cord from back of device)
    d. DSL or Cable Modem (unplug power cord from back of device)
NOTE: Leave the modem unplugged for at least 60 seconds. (The 60 seconds is to ensure the modem doesn’t “remember” old information). Confirm that all cables are snapped firmly into place.
    2. Turn the devices on one at a time in this order:
    a. DSL or Cable Modem - Wait for the lights to come back on before continuing. This may take several minutes. Most modems have a light that should be lit solid when start-up is complete. If necessary, refer to the information that came with your modem.
    b. Router, if you have one - Wait for the lights to come back on (consult router manual for sequence) before continuing. Wait at least 30 seconds after the lights have stopped blinking.
    c. Vonage Device - Wait for the power and phone(s) lights to be a solid green. (The Internet light will blink whenever there is activity.)
    d. Computer

    Thanks a lot.

All that you proposed I've tried before I placed my initial post.

I made power down, unplugged all, waited, plugged again - all as it described in VWR manual.

I tried to either use DHCP purely or attach a static IP address (in the router settings) to computer and reconfigure IP/gateway/DNS in TCP/IP settings accordingly.

There is no internet connection via router any way. And "Internet" light is neither solid nor blinked on the router.

Installation of the modem Comtrend CT-361 under Windows Vista

This appears to be an old model. Their website isn't very user friendly and they list no kind of tech support available. You can contact them here.

http://www.comtrend.com/na/contact.htm

They might be able to help you out if you call them but there is nothing available on their website or anywhere else that I see on the web. The product appears to be older then Vista and might have never had a Vista driver made for the product.
