Corrupted Hard Drive..

When you say recover the files by using another computer, how do I actually do that? Its a laptop. I have two laptops so I could probably do it myself, but I just need to know how.

What I was doing exactly til the moment it froze. I finished watching a video 'tower of druaga' then went to chat with a client I have just done a shoot for. I was sending her pictures so she could play with them and edit them how ever she pleases. After 2-3 minutes of that, i was browsing and suddenly it froze. From there yeah.

-Thank you in advance

What he said is right. 1 way to do it is to use an external enclosure for the harddisk so that it can be used on the other laptop.

You will need to buy an external hard drive enclosure to put the hard drive in. This should enable you to view the files and retrieve them. You can also do a drive check if you download the drive test for your drive.
I will keep helping you if you need help. Just let me know or rate me if this helps.

Edwin,

Not sure if you still can recover your files. There are some good recover programs around, but not that many good ones for free. Some programs you can use to see what you can recover, and then you can retrieve 5 files or so and for more you have to pay.
Anyway when not to many files are already encrypted, you should be able to retrieve some or most files. Be aware you should not write one bit to the drive, till you really got back what you need.

Check out these sites, and see if you can get a program that helps enough. If not, you always can buy.

How can I recover my files after I drop my external hard drive?

First of all - STOP using your WD drive immediately! If you continue using the disk drive, you significantly increase the risk that the files you want to recover will be lost forever due to overwritten. Every new file or action will take up more "free space" and reduce your chances of retrieving your deleted files from WD. So really, you need to act quickly.

The next step - get a good HDD data recovery software to retrieve the data as most as possible.

My hard disk has an error and computer cannot boot. what should i do?

first, recover your files. You can recover files with file recovery software like asoftech data recovery. download the software from
http://download.cnet.com/Asoftech-Data-Recovery/3000-2248_4-75328850.html?part=dl-75328850&subj=dl&tag=button

I've had to use it many times in the past but in this case you need to plug that drive into another system as an external drive or slave drive and run the software from there. It will rebuild the drive and hopefully recover the files.

After you get back your files, you can then format the drive and reinstall your system.

Can I recover files in any way from ST310005FDA2E1-RK 1TB Seagate Freeagent because it doesn't appear when connected to my laptop?

Hello invest_greec
Connect it to another computer and use Free Recuva works fine : http://download.cnet.com/Recuva/3000-2242_4-10753287.html
Do not try to recover all at once but each category at a time , documents , pictures , music ...etc...
If it fails , try this one . It's not free but very efficient : Tenorshare Data Recovery. It can recover data after deeply scanning your hard drive to look for lost data due to unwanted erasing , system sabotage, virus corrupted partitions, drives crash, physical damage,ect.. http://www.any-data-recovery.com/product/index.htm
If you still don't have success , you will have to go to a recovery office but let's hope not because it will cost you a lot of money .

I think i have lost my recovery partition and i don't have haveany recovery cd so how can i recover my laptop and that partition is unllocated

HI......
PLEASE FOLLOW THE STEPS CAREFULLY

  1. Step 1 If you have deleted something by accident, you can try to recover that file from the recycle bin in Windows.
If you have emptied the recycle bin, you may be thinking it is lost forever, but you can try to do data recovery using software that is free. Data recovery is not always going to work, if the hard drive has written over that sector with data from another program, it might be unattainable using home based software.
  2. Step 2 You can try however to do data recovery using this simple program "Undelete-All", I have posted it in resources.
  3. Step 3 If your hard drive crashed and the sectors were corrupted, again a professional hard drive recovery place would be the best, but if you don't have thousands to spend, you can try a few things that are free.
  4. Step 4 First you will want to restart and make sure the hard drive is being detected by BIOS, when it restarts press f2, or esc, or del to enter BIOS, every computer is different on how to get in, usually it will say at the bottom of the screen.
  5. Step 5 Once in BIOS you will see a summary screen, if your hard drive is detected, great! Proceed on to the next steps, if, however, your hard is not showing, I am afraid to say but more then likely it has died, and it would definitely take a professional place to recover, what they do is take the hard drive platter out, and mount it onto a professional machine to recover the data, again this can costs thousands (I've checked into it before).
There could though be other reasons a hard drive is not showing, such as, loose cables, BIOS not updated, etc. But if it was working, and nothing has changed, and you haven't rattled the computer around like laptop computers, this you would want to check for loose wires, otherwise it is probably dead.
  6. Step 6 What you can do to try to get data recovery if it is still detected, and this works for desktop computers or laptop computers, would be to set up the old corrupted drive as a slave disk to the new disk.
  7. Step 7 What you would need to do is buy a new disk, install the new OS, be it Windows Vista, XP, etc, and then attach the old drive to the 2nd cable in the computer.
There will be jumpers if your drives are IDE, every drive is different, and you will have to look that up, it might be on the drive itself. You will want the new drive as master, the old drive as slave.
If your drives are SATA, no matter, it will do this automatically.
  8. Step 8 If you have a laptop computer, this will be a different procedure, you would need either an external enclosure for your old drive to attach it to your laptop via USB, or a desktop computer that you can hook it to.
  9. Step 9 Since laptop computers can have either IDE or SATA, this might pose a difficulty if your desktop only takes SATA and your laptop is IDE, you would need an enclosure for this to hook it up via USB. If your laptop computer is SATA, you can hook this up to any desktop that has SATA, same with IDE.
  10. Step 10 Once the drive is hooked up, and shows in Windows, you can begin the process of getting your files back. The main files on your desktop will be located in a USER file in Windows Vista c:\(user name)\desktop, in XP c:\documents and settings\(user)\desktop.
  11. Step 11 I hope this article sheds some light on data recovery, hard drive recovery, and deleted files in laptop computers, and desktop computers. I hope if this has happened to you, that you will be able to get your data back! I always, always suggest that you backup your data using an external hard drive connected via USB, better to be safe then sorry! :-)

PLEASE RATE ME..
THANK YOU

I've tried to reboot my daughters laptop. It is vista. I held down f8 and tried several of the repairs but nothing has made it work. I tried starting it in safe mode but it just stops. Is there anything...

You should download UBCD4Win and try booting from the UBCD4Win CD/DVDto recover your files. Since you said you've tried booting into Safe Mode but it didn't work, from my experience, most probably the OS is corrupted. Try using UBCD4Win to recover your files to a USB drive first and then reformat the hard drive and reinstall Vista. Hope that works for you. Good luck
