best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Lost security code for wireless linksys router

Hi alockklock2,

If you want to obtain the password or security on your router you need to access the Wireless Settings Page. To access the router page you need a working computer that is connected to the router. To access the router page just open a browser then type 192.168.1.1, the Default username is blank and the password is admin. Go to the Wireless Tab select Wireless Security under the Security Mode you will see there Network Key or Passphrase. The Network Key serves as a password or security code on your network to make it secure.

You can also reset the router to its factory state but you need to keep in mind that all settings will be back to its default settings. To reset the router press and hold the small reset button at the back of the router using a Pen or a Paper Clip for 15-30 seconds.

If this works dont forget to say thanks. Thanks for using Fixya.

How do I lock access to my DIR-615 router

Go into the routers configuration pages and turn on wireless security.
Use your browser and type 192.168.1.1 into the address bar. Type in admin for the logon and admin for the password and the routers options will be displayed. When you turn on wireless security, you will need to enter a code key. Write down the code key as you will need to enter this key into every computer that you wish to use your network.
Then save and reboot the modem.
Thats it.
Enter the code on the computers accessing the network and they should be fine too.
The code key should be kept in a secure location, stuck up on your desk is NOT a secure location.
This will prevent any computer that does not have your code key from accessing your network.

Wanted to add a new laptop to the network but lost password. was advised to reset router. now cannot connect any computer to the internet unless plugged directly into the modem.

While plugged-in, access the web-server "inside" the router, and run the "Wireless Networking Setup Wizard", to configure your wireless network (SSID, encryption-level, and network-password).

I want the password to put the secure code

You can secure your wireless network wit WEP or WAP code.
For that Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link.
http://192.168.0.1
or
http://192.168.1.1
For belkin router http://192.168.15.1
or
http://192.168.2.1

If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it.
Then it ask for user name and password.
Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank.
Then you can see configuration page of router.
Click on wireless settings WEP Security then add WEP code .It is your password to connect wi fi.Then save settings and restart router.
If you already set the code then if you can read it then you can ser it in wireless but if it is in 8 or # format then add new wep code .
Then you can connect your wi fi network with that code.
Thanks for using FixYa.

What is the default network security key

Actually the Motorola SBG901 comes with security enabled on the wireless. You need to use WPA-PSK code found on the label on the bottom of the modem (or on the several extra labels in the box) to sign onto the wireless network. It is one of the only modem/routers I have ever seen who has the factory default as security enabled. It is frustrating - I just spent 2-3 hours figuring this out myself. The intstructions are less than clear that this is the code to use - but it is!

Lost my user name and need to add new computer

Are you trying to connect to the wireless network ?
Or your new computer will be connected to router with the cable.
If it is hard wired to the router and the router is working for the other computers then you don't need to change anything on the router.
If you are trying to connect to the wireless network then you should know the wireless settings of the router.

How can you duble the use of a modem&is it posible?

Definitely if you are planning on hard wiring all 10 computers you need to purchase a hub..Basically you would use one of the 4 ports on your modem. Run ethernet from router to hub input and add up to 16 computers. Over 16 you need a switch. If you are going to have some wire and the others wireless, you just need to security access code from the router, that you should have from the first wireless set up.You should have a setup disk for router if you didn't complete initial setup. Or contact manufacturer to get a replacement disk. As long as all 10 computers have wireless capabilities you just have to enter the access on each individual computer to access your wireless network.
