DW6000 satelite receiver resets often

Frequently, my DW6000 satelite receiver restes itself. The system will go down frequently and will take 3 - 6 minutes to start working again. All lights, except the power light, go off. What are the likely causes and fixes.
Thank you.

Ok, thank you. The reset says "unexpected VxWorks Exception." What can I do next?

Thanks for the info. I am still waiting to hear from Bentley Walker tech support (no responce yet and they give no phone number on their web site). I also noted recently that the system clock and calander are both way off. The system always thinks it is 25 June 2001 and about 12 hours off. Will the "special force range" fix this as well or is this a different problem?

    Thank you.

Before we arcertain what is needed to fix we need to find what the issues is. You can use the web interface to check this.

Check out the reset recent history.

Reset history is in http://192.168.0.1/fs/advanced/advanced.html in the menu on the left.

It should show your last 8 resets and why they occurred.

    - A firmware upgrade will show as New software downloaded.
    - Normal resets will be something like: System Power Up, or Manual reboot via Web Interface rr command.
    - Resets due to problems will show memory fragmented, or VxWorks Exception.
    Good luck!!!

Normally a force range should clear this up and you may want to try that but based on what i have seen - and this will be kinda difficult to hear - but you will need to contact technical support and have them call their NOC (network operations center) and do a "special force ranging" they may call it something different but opening a NOC ticket will accomplish the same thing as this should be part of their troubleshooting step. As far as I have seen this is something that can only be done on their end. Remember ask them to open a NOC ticket! This is the only way that you can be assured that this wil be done. (I would suggest asking for the ticket number so you can get updates... usually the turn around.. if they are good should be 72 hours... call first thing Monday morning which will insure that you have a full crew at the NOC..

btw when you speak to tech support call it "nock"(makes you sound like you're in the "know")

Good luck .... and dont forget to rate my response!!!

Frequently displays " Internal communication

Hi jesterr9 my name is Mike Houston of DISH Network Executive Office. When you receiver is showing internal communication and keeps resetting the can be a couple different things making this happen. It may not have the current software downloaded as well it may have a bad smartcard inside as well. The current software as of 1/12/11 for the VIP 211 is L5.61. To find the current software press the MENU button two times.

Screen hanging up frequently

Usually when this happens the first suspect is a bad map file. First try a reset and see if that fixes it. Then try taking out the sd card and resetting it. If it works smooth after you know it was just that map file it was trying to load.

Frequently loses satellites.

I can help you fix the satellite problem with your Garmin Nuvi 265WT.

Poor satellite reception, loosing satellites, and taking a long time to acquire satellites are issues that have been addressed by Nuvi 265WT firmware updates.

There are three steps to take to get your Nuvi 265WT running better than new:

  1. Back up your Favorites.
  2. Perform a Hard Reset.
  3. Download and then run Garmin 265WT WebUpdater to replace its firmware / system software.

I hope that helps.

My receiver shuts down frequently , wakes back after 2 or 3 sec .

do you have sufficient space around the unit? If it is in an enclosed space, has other components on top, etc, you may be overheating the receiver. Once it gets too hot it can potentially cause the issues you mention above.

If you have other components on top, try moving them to another shelf or below the receiver, and if you have a door on an entertainment center, leave the door open to help with air flow.
