The cursor periodically becomes unresponsive and I lose it on the screen, or it is jerky in its movements/ inaccurate/difficult to place. Have tried new batteries several times. Any other suggestions?

run it in battery to see if fixes cursor problem
also try a different mouse see if that makes the cursor move correctly
this way you see if its the mouse or power supply
might also a touch pad problem anything that controls the cursor

Toshiba unresponsive to open

To open what?

More information is needed I think.

Is it unresponsive when you open the lid of the laptop after putting it in standby?

Is a particular piece of software you are trying to run unresponsive?

Does the whole laptop become unresponsive when you perform a certain task or use it for a certain period of time?

The more information you can provide about the issue the more chance there is of someone being able to help.

White screen and unresponsive cursor

To figure out what is wrong there are only three things that can go wrong from easy to fix to another.
  • LCD cable and connections
  • inverter board
  • motherboard

Also remove every single removable components like ram, hardisk, power supply cables, data cables..Use a sytem utility tool like PCFresher to fix windows registry errors to keep all hardware working.

The ALPS Touchpad in the HP dv4 causes random pointer movements

i have the same problem with my HP Pavilion DV4 they were unhelpful on the phone about it. It's been happening with this computer since I bought it. The cursor will just jump around randomly for a few minutes being unresponsive. Then go back to normal.

FH101 head jerky panning movement

Not knowing where you reside, I don't know if a certain product is available to you but there are several different brands and some generics in the US. The original oil additive was called STP, there was a competing brand called Motor Honey (shudder) and in many auto supply houses you can find a generic sold for 'high mileage engines.' It is a refined petroleum product with a very high viscosity and is sticky in nature. If you can access the surfaces causing the problem, a dot ot two on either will probably help with the jerkiness you are having. I have used the stuff for similar gliding surfaces and the only disadvantage is the tendency to 'creep' so keeping the applied quantity low is a must.
