Question about KitchenAid KSM90 Ultra Power Series Stand Mixer

KitchenAid KSM90 gear stripped?

My wife was trying to knead too much dough with her mixer and something must have snapped. She says it "stopped", and then she heard a "gnggh", and then when she started it up again, it operated, but has a "dik-dik-dik-dik-dik,," sound, that increases with the speed of operation.

I think it must be a broken gear tooth or something, whatever plastic gears are in there. I found this site:

http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=239812

The exploded diagram is there, but now I am left with guesswork as to how to take it apart. I think the ring comes off first, then the pin, then from there, it'll get greasy. Any advice?

I have a similar issue with kneading the too much & too stiff dough. However, my mixer has simply stopped rotating. The motor runs, but nothing on the exterior moves.

I have this same problem...is there a way to get the case open to replace the pin? A service manual, perhaps?

I just ran into this problem when the PLASTIC worm gear broke and then the mixer would not power on after I replaced the gear. The problem was due to the was I tried to dissasemble the mixer. I removed the two plastic screws near the top center of the mixer when attempting to disassemble. These do not have anything to do with the assembly it turns out the attached square pieces (attached to these screws by springs) must be in the proper orientation to run. I put them in the way it showed in a diagram but it did not work until I tried all four different combinations that they could be rotated. Two of the rotations on the square could be eliminated by closely looking at the end where it contacts the shaft. The round shaft marking will be evident on the square inserts. I'mnotsure how to better describe them, but the are attached by springs to the plastic screws on both sides of the top of the mixer.

There are no plastic gears in these mixers there all metal on metal gears big and thick beafy gears

now these mixers have a pin that holds the gears if something ever jams or faults then the pin breaks and the motor will keep running but not the gears for the machines saftey

KitchenAid stand mixer KSM50PWH. Was kneading dough with dough hook attachment and it quit turning. Motor works fine but the part that's supposed to go round and round doesn't. Can I fix this?

The Nylon Worm Gear has stripped. This is designed into the part so if the Mixer gets overloaded, it won't burn out the motor. Which is odd if you have the reset switch like I do.

Part# 4162897

You can buy it online at Kitchenaid.com

When I turn on my Kitchenaid mixer at any speed, it ramps up to high speed and then shuts down after maybe 30 seconds.

You need a reputable repairman. My gears were stripped after trying to mix a very thick dough. It would only work on high speed. After it was repaired.... I still use it, all the speeds work, and that has been 15 years ago. My mixer was at least 8 years old at the time of the "stripping".

Is 300 w mixer powerful enough to mix bread dough?

Your mixer is easily able to handle the kneading of bread dough. Please advise:

9 cups of all purpose white flour, maximum.

6 cups of specialty flour, maximum. This is any flour besides all purpose white.

Bread doughs are only to be needed on speed 2, and never for longer than 7 minutes.

This is all stated in the Use and Care guide for the mixer itself. If these guidelines are not followed, it may lead to a product failure.

Mixer stopped turning when I was making bread

You probably have stripped the gear in the head section. It can be replaced, but I would consider this a advanced repair since you need to push steel pins out of the shafts to replace the gears. Use google to find a local repair shop, or fix it yourself if your mechanically inclined, parts are available online (and not that expensive).

Kitchenaid Stand Mixer - gear assembly coming loose

There should be screws to tighten. Or maybe the pin holding the gearhead on is missing, tho that is unlikely.

Beater jams

You are going to DESTROY YOUR MIXER by kneading dough with the flat beater. Read the directions. They spell it out in big letters. Only use the dough hook for dough; only use speed 2.
If the mixer generated enough torque to knead dough with the flat beater (it doesn't), it would tear up and overwork the dough. As it is, you're lucky you didn't strip a gear.
