Question about Denon Audio Players & Recorders

Open Question

Hello: I have been using a Denon PMA-530 amplifier for almost 30 years, and a Toshiba SD-5700 DVD player with HDCD circuitry for about 6 years to play my CDs. I find the HDCD circuitry much superior to even newer DVD players at reproducing stereo sound with natural presence and lacking the coarseness usual to regular CD players. My Denon amplifier recently died, and I have been trying a Harmon Kardon AVR1600 receiver as a stereo amplifier. The sound quality is good using the digital output of the DVD player, but the music lacks the punch and presence of the analog setup I have used for years. I assume it has something to do with the digital to analog conversion in the new amplifier and maybe is not as good as the HDCD circuitry. Any ideas on how I can get back the old quality? I could go to an all analog amp, but my Toshiba will eventually fail and I may have a hard time finding an analog player in the future. Thanks. Bill

SOURCE: No sound using digital coaxial connections

Couple of possibilities:
Press Audio Select on front of unit until "Analog" changes to "coax/opt"

or

When you select the component connected to the MULTI CH INPUT jacks as the input source (see page 38), this unit automatically
turns off the digital sound field processor, and you cannot select sound field programs.

SOURCE: DVD player and receiver will not play a dvd in surround sound ?

The dvd player is responsible for reading the surround sound track, and sending it to the receiver. First make sure you are playing the surround sound track on the dvd, many have a stereo track too. Next, try another dvd and see if you can play surround sound on that one. If you can't play surround on ANY dvd I would start looking at the audio connection from dvd to receiver. Are you using an optical cable? Red, white, and yellow RCA cables? Optical will transmit any sound over only one cable, RCA cables need one cable for each channel (LF, C, RF, LR, RR, sub.) If your connections are correct, is the receiver set to play a surround sound track? Is it set in 2 channel mode?

SOURCE: Harmon Kardon unlock error

I have the same problem. All of a sudden no sound through my TV connection (but through the DVD connection the sound was still working). I changed the connection from video 1 to video 2 and got the sound back. It is not a real solution, but a practical one :-)

Although an updated turntable with USB can be used

Denon PMA 700 AE maximum phono input signal

Why? Are you contemplating connection of something OTHER THAN A PHONO CARTRIDGE to it?

Be advised, only a phono cartridge should be connected to a Phono input. There's more going on behind it than just voltage step-up.

Toshiba DVD player doesn't retract or load media. DVD carrier is stuck in the out position

There is a rubber band on the motor that opens the tray out to load the disc, somehow that must of slip off the motor. Or the motor itself went bad.

Hi, I have a Denon PMA320. I would like to connect it to a Hitachi 32LD6200 TV. How do I get the sound from the TV through the amp please? Many thanks, RichT

If the TV has audio out jacks then you can connect them via a lead to the amp. If not the you can use a scart socket. You can get a scart plug with audio and video RCA jacks on the other end of it and connect that to the amp. If the TV has only one scart and you are using it for a video or DVD device, get a scart adapter with more than one socket.
