My dishwasher is over a year old. I hardley ever use it. But I turned it on last night to wash os glasses. The water went in but then the arm didn't sprinkle and nor did it come out. Do you think it could be some kind of bluid up or something like that?

try connect a water filter (carbon and particle), and connect the machine on output filter, mormaly resolve this problem. Some old houses has water supplie problems, as dirty water, and contamined problems, check for water purity.
Your dishwasher is siphoning the water out. The drain hose should turn upward, nearly to the bottom side of the counter top, before it attaches to the drain or disposal. If it has an independant drain it still needs the rise and also needs an air break to stop the siphoning.
-Have you changed the dishwasher soap recently? What are you using? Is the powder remaining behind in the soap dispenser?
-Have you removed the filter in the sump area, cleaned it and removed any debris under the filter. (watch out for broken glass that is almost always found in 5 year old dishwashers.)
-You are running water at the sink until it gets hot, but you may still have problems if the heating element has failed. Recommend you check that element. If you can get to the element, check resistence of the heater to see if is has any at all.
If heating element checks out good, the next common problem is a failing wash pump motor.
Take the cover off, as you face unit on right side follow the vacum hose to two presure switches. Tap on them lightly with a the handle of screw drive. fix my unit three months ago still working. The problem is the presure switch.
Sounds like your not getting water to it. Turn on and let run for a few minutes then open door and check to see if you have water in it. If not check to be sure water to it is turned on. Check float in front corner of dishwasher to see if moves freely up and down and that there is nothing underneath it. If these check ok you probably need a water valve.
