Look for bad caps first.
If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed VIEWSONIC monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Check your computer's (I bet blind that it's actually a laptop) video output settings. It's most likely defaulted to "extended" or "dual screen" mode... which can be useful in some cases to e.g. let you set up a powerpoint that shows an unmolested image of the slides on the projector whilst you control it with a rather more option-heavy display on the laptop screen.

However if you really want the projector to just directly show what's on the internal screen itself, look for a mode called "Clone", "Twin" or "Mirror" (or something with a similar meaning)... or just cycle through them until you find one that works.

Mind that most projectors now are both lower resolution and have a different shape output to a typical laptop, so expect that one or other of the displays will end up seemingly distorted somehow, either stretched/squashed to fit or with horizontal/vertical letterboxing (black borders). It's quite likely that your internal display will end up being crunched down to match whatever the projector reports as its native resolution... do not panic, it's not a fault, this is fairly expected behaviour. At least, so long as it goes back to normal when you unplug the projector, of course.

Unfortunately I can't predict which of the above will actually happen, as every manufacturer has a different in-house standard for default behaviour, and the combination of two devices potentially from different marques being connected together only multiplies the possibilities. Just muddle through as best you can ;-)

My laptop changes resolution when connected to a projector.

This is normal behaviour when running the display "clone" mode, where the projector displays the same view as your laptop

To avoid the resolution change, go to display settings, and select "extend desktop" mode. This will allow different resolutions, and will run powerpoint presentations on the second screen

Why does stereo amp cut out at higher volume

You seem to have the answers to your question. I would just resolder the connections anyway without checking. If it solves the problem you have saved yourself a lot of money. If it doesn't follow the other steps in order of cheapness!

Cannot display on monitor

If your PC gives single normal beep while booting then try connecting your monitor to another working PC. If it doesn't display then check the VGA cable by replacing it with new one. If the beep is not normal then tell us the beep behaviour.

Power is on but after 2-4 seconds display turns off but power is still on where the power light is in blue.it's not in sleep mode where the power color is orange.it just goes back to normal at random...

Without looking at the monitor to confirm this, I suspect you have failing capacitors which power the HT circuit, simply, the power needed to light the display, is leaking to earth, capacitors have lost the ability to store the charge necessary to illuminate the screen, which is why it is working erratically.
You need to get this checked out by a TV technician.

Some time no display, normaly server work fine,...

I have same problem with my previous DELL and now with my new (1550) onr too.

Sometimes when starting up the laptop with own display (not remote one, which this problem has never occured) the display just keep to be black. Sometimes it helps to close dislpay (to make laptop to go "sleep" mode and then open it up again, but this does not help always).

Maybe this is normal behaviour for DELL laptops ... This is last DELL that I bought.

Screen not coming on at start up. just blue power light flashing.

Hi,

I can think of a few possible reasons
First, did you check all the card connections? A lost PCI connection could easily cause such unstable behaviour and check ram,
remove 1 of the ram memory cards,  after that you check its working or not.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

I turn system on it comes on displays cd vcr sat or other functions then shuts down and it displays powered off

It would appear your unit's self protection mechanism is doing it, to save you from expensive repairs. Please check your speaker connections. It's possible they may be shorted, causing this behaviour.
Good luck!
