Your desctiption sounds like the motor may be damaged. If the unit does not have enough power to drive past the switch triggering.

Check carefully the off adjustment, to see that it is fully seated on the dial. Thinking of hitting the lever dead on and jamming.

Washer stops during normal wash cycle for a minute or more, and then continues. Would replacing the timer fix it?

If it actually goes on and finishes the cycle and that really bothers you replace it. If not leave it alone and allow a little more time to complete its cycle. The lid switch only keeps the spin cycle from going with the top open.

Whirlpool commercial washer stopped running mid

Most likely the pump is plugged with lint, pillow stuffing, a small object, or some other obstruction which is not allowing the motor to turn.

Doesnt go through programs

sounds like you have a bad timer or lid switch. does it finish a cycle but not advance or does it just keep washing or does it wash then stop and get stuck? if it just keeps doing one cycle like wash wash wash you would have a bad timer. if it washes then stops and gets stuck you have a bad lid switch. But then again if you had a bad lid switch it would never spin. What is the brand name of this washer?

Will not drain or spin

Unless you jarred the machine it's the timer. You can check this by bypassing the lid switch and seeing if it will cycle.

Washer stops and make clicking sound

sounds like the timer needs a little assistance to get "over the hump". perhaps many cam switches must be switched at his point of cam rotation. if machine is getting old, then attempt to lubricate the electric motor that turns the timer mechanism. also lube the shaft bushings for the timer cam plate as well if possible.
