Question about Necchi 3102 Mechanical Sewing Machine

1 Answer

I just bought an old Pfaff 206 and the machine sews about ten stitches before it just completely jams. I double checked the threading, and the bobbin, both are correct. (I'm sorry I don't know the correct terminology, I will try to be descriptive.) I watched underneath as I turned the wheel to let the needle down, and each time the needle descended the top thread was getting caught on a sharp point (part of the bobbin holder area). I took off the outer plate that holds the semi-circular inner ring in place, and tried multiple times to reinsert the semi circle with the sharp point, but each time the machine's rotational timing is just such that the thread loops around the sharp point and gets carried forward until everything jams and even the needle cannot be extracted (when sewing fabric). I can't think of anything to do that would change this timing: do I need to take the machine to a specialist? I'd appreciate any advice as this is really a lovely machine and I'm looking forward to using it. Thanks in advance!

Since you bought it used, if it is timing then a service tech can fix the problem.
& also since it is used having it serviced will give you peace of mind that everything is working correctly.
also after it's serviced, let them sew on it in your presence so you can see it's working properly, after all your paying for it to be fixed, & you should be allowed to see them sew on it after it's serviced.

What number is satin stitch on Piaf quilt expressions 4.0

A satin stitch is simply a zig-zag stitch that is shortened enough so the threads lay next to each other without laying over another but also without any space (fabric) showing between. Keep in mind that the thread weight will cause the satin stitch to differ.

My pfaff 4.2 keeps saying remove thread jam under the stitch plate. I have cleared everything several times but it keeps coming up on the screen.

Candace, while not familiar with the 4.2, I've had thread jams on my trusty old Pfaff. I hope this helps!

If you are able to totally remove the bobbin cover/stitch plate, please do so. Ideally, there will be one or two screws holding it in place.

remove the bobbin

carefully inspect the bobbin housing; thread likes to hide behind the housing. If you find some thread, use a tweezers to remove it.

If no thread is found, see if there are one or two screws holding the bobbin holder/raceway in place, or just a lever. Try to remove the bobbin holder, carefully noting what the orientation is of all pieces is (using a cellphone to capture pictures of before and after is great!).

Clear any threads from the raceway, carefully re-assemble everything, test and good luck!!!

Needle continually unthreads itself

I would suggest to you to change the needle--it could be damaged
causing the thread to be cut.
also check the needle plate for burrs or sharp spots that you can feel
with your finger.

Message remove thread jam under the stitch plate keeps appearing! It's clean!

After cleaning out the bobbin area, re-threading the top thread, turning my Pfaff 4.2 off and on it still said " remove thread jam under the the stitch plate". I pushed the "ok" button and it started working again.
Keeping my fingers crossed.

Skips a few stitches when using a double needle. I'm using a recently acquired old Pfaff Hobbymatic and have used a double needle before on a Singer. When I tried sewing, it will stitch but then skip a...

firstly are you using a regular twin needle on a knit fabric? this could cause skipped stitches.
is the twin needle quite old and possibly blunt?

Is the Hobbymatic a model that requires a slanted twin needle, there are two types of twin needles as the computerised machines need the offset style. You can distinguish between them by the plastic block on the needle shaft where the twin needle points are set, either red or a deep brown colour.

If none of the above apply, then it is possible that the timing sequence is slightly off so that one of the needle's thread is not getting caught during the stitching.

Timing is an adjustment that I leave to the technician to address. But if you want to have a go yourself there may be some videos on you-tube for your model and how to make this adjustment to it.

No stitch happening

May sure you are using the correct size of needle and thread suitable for the fabric. make sure the thread in the bobbin and the needle is of the same weight or size. Make sure the needle is changed often - after the completion of an garment. After much use the needles become blunt and cause problems with your stitches.

Also, if the bobbin is jamming that is normally because the machine is threaded incorrectly, or the bobbin case thread is wound unevenly, or the bobbin case is not put in properly.

Try this! Just stop for a while, give yourself a few minutes to relax. When you return pull the User's Manual and slowly go over the instructions, especially the "troubleshooting" section. Also, rethread the machine and the bobbin case by carefully following the steps in your User Manual. I have found that it helps me tremendously when I have problems. Hope it help. Happy Sewing
