Question about Computers & Internet
The Ideal or best way to use time machine is to use it with a external hard drive. Backing up into the computer itself has small value, if the hard drive in the machine crashes, So does your backups.
So you need a USB hard disc, preferably 500GB or more depending on the size of your computer hard drive, and then set up time machine pack ups to be performed to that drive.

How to use time machine
So once you have your hard drive, you need to set it up on the time machine, just add it there and that should be about it. Ofcourse if you buy a new drive, you first may need to use the Disc Utility to erase the drive and format it as MAC OS X Extended , journaled file system, after that, set it up with time machine and your good to go.
