SOURCE: The ASUS USB-BT211 mini bluetooth

If you need to use a wireless mouse I suggest to use a radio based one ..and not a Bluetooth based...cause they are not reliable in long term use...due to the pairing problems ..or the connectivity time ...The bluetooth connection is made for a quick file transfer or a temporary solution ..but for a long term use on a device ..like a mouse it is not indicated..I suggest to use a normal wireless oen ..cause it will pair and never need repairing unless the batteries are dead and need changing ..
The issues you encounter is probably caused by the interference ..if you keep in mind the fact that the bluetooth is a popular frequency and most devices you have around may have the capability of it ..and may interfere ..I mean the phone ..the ipod..the tv ..and so on ..and if you live in a apartment building ..even the devices from your neighbors may be picked up ..
but ..if you use a normal wireless mouse .they usually have a different freq. and almost never been interrupted ..

Usb dongle is not working

Step 1:
A Bluetooth dongle is an external Bluetooth device used to enable your PC's Bluetooth connection. Many Bluetooth dongles come without installation disks since the software is pre-programmed into the actual USB stick. These Bluetooth dongles are very useful on netbooks that don't have Bluetooth connection, since netbooks have no CD-Rom drives. Turn on your PC. Insert the USB Bluetooth dongle into the USB port on your desktop tower, or the USB ports located on the perimeter of your laptop. Wait for the program to auto run. Once you connect your dongle, the driver program should launch. Follow the onscreen prompts to install the dongle. A dialogue box should open that says "Installing Drivers" from the taskbar. Allow the driver to install completely before closing the box. Unplug the dongle and restart your PC. Once the PC has been switched on, insert the dongle. Double-click "My Bluetooth Places." This is the Bluetooth icon located in your taskbar, and it should launch the "Initial Bluetooth Configuration Wizard." Click "Next" on the first screen. Next, type in the name of your computer and select your computer type from the drop-down menu, then click "Next." Click "Skip" on the onscreen prompts, then finish. Pairing the Devices Turn on your external Bluetooth device. Double-click "My Bluetooth Places." Select "Find Bluetooth Devices." The name your Bluetooth device should display in the next window. Right click the icon for your Bluetooth device, and scroll down to "Pair Device." Enter the Bluetooth pin code for your external device in the "Bluetooth Pin Code Request" pop-up window. Then click "OK." The default pin code is normally "0000" or "12345." You can find your pin code in your user manual. If you are pairing a cell phone to your PC, you will have to enter the same pin code on your cell phone to establish the Bluetooth connection.

Hi.
Before starting, make sure the keyboard and mouse are ON and with batteries.

Whit the PC already ON:
* The first step is to plug in the USB Bluetooth adaptor.
* Once the Bluetooth adaptor is inserted, allow Windows to install the drivers.
* Once Windows gives it the OK, the USB dongle should have a light or even a button. (If you don’t see a button the "yellow" light is the button).
* Press the USB dongle button....this will tell the dongle to start looking for a Keyboard or mouse.
* On the underside of the mouse (and keyboard) should be a a small button.
* Press the button(s) for ~5 seconds, then release.. this tells teh keyboard (or mouse) to look for a dongle.

This should show a connection between the dongle and the keyboard (or mouse).

Or
With the PC Off:
* Just connect the dongle
* Do the button sequence as described above, unit the dongle light goes “solid” again.
* Start the PC and keyboard and mouse should work perfectly.

Cheers,
Ed

Aspire 3000 laptop

Normally you setup a passkey or use 0000 or 9999 as a passkey.

The question is, does that pop up when you try to connect a USB device? Do you get that when you try to install the dongle? (That shouldn't happen). If you are trying to connect a PDA or cell phone, you setup the passkey for the connecting device on the computer then type it in to the PDA or mobile phone. If you are trying to connect a bluetooth headset, then you use whatever code is from the manufactorer. Normally this is 0000 or 9999.

Hope this helps!
