Question about Compaq NC6000 Notebook

1 Answer

Internet For some reason, my notebook does not switch to next page on the internet when clicking on a link. for intstance when I'm on yahoo and click on the mail button, it makes a click sound like it's taking me to a new page but nothing happens. Usually a bar on the bottom would pop up to let me know the's downloading. I know my connection is fine because when I plut the ethernet to my desktop, I can get on the net just fine and when I plug it to my laptop it's giving me problems. It wasn't like this before.

It depends on what web browser you are using.

Google Chrome:

Next, Click Settings.
You will see a bullet that says "On Startup".
Click the "Open a specific page or set of pages" bullet.
Then click "Set Pages"
Now type in www.yahoo.com.
You're all set!

Internet Explorer:
Click the gear in the top right corner.
Click on Internet Options.

How do I get yahoo homepage back

Hi Janice,

To add or change home pages

  1. Open Internet Explorer by clicking the Internet Explorer icon on the taskbar.
  2. Click the Tools button f2d3a394-a4c3-4747-989e-cf3f6b782b2f_43.jpg, and then click Internet options.
  3. On the General tab, under Home page, enter the URL of the site you want to set as a home page, in your case www.yahoo.com. You can add more than one URL, or add the site you're currently viewing by clicking Use current. If you add more than on URL, put each URL on its own line.
  4. Click Apply, and then tap or click OK. The next time you open a new browsing session or window (or tap or click the Home button), your home pages will be loaded automatically.

Internet only in safe mode

As you can still get Internet thru the safe mode then on google type REALTEK PCIE GBE FAMILY CONTROLLER open that page. Click on the link with Download Driver PC Pistop/ Library/ Realtek PCIE GBE family controller. Next choose your windows version and the right click Download. Give your email Adress and click ok, go to your mails and confirm by clicking on download link. The driver will be installed and system will restart. Here your Internet must be working normal without safe mode.

Hey Buddy,

Open the browser (internet explorer) you are using on your PC. Open Yahoo.com

Then click on the Tools --- then select Internet Options --- A Menu Box will open --- Then click on the tab 'Use Current' . This will set Yahoo as your default home page.

If you find my answer helpful, please grade me. :)

Thank you!

Google took over and home page should be yahoo

No problem, let the browser window open and when it has finished loading, click on the address bar and type in www.yahoo.com hit enter and let Yahoo load up, actually just get it to the page that you want as your home page. When you get there click on the "Tools" button, the one next to help and scroll down to the bottom and click on "Internet Options". When the window comes up, the first area will be for the home page. Click on "Use Current", this will make the current page viewed the Homepage....click apply and OK.

Wont let me type in internet addresses- only accepts numbers

My best guess with the limited info given is that your settings on your computer are somehow not right. My best guess is your IP address is not correct. When you right click on my network places and go to properties you should see a list of connections. Double click on the one you believe is your internet. Click on the support tab and at the top it should say next to address type "assigned by dhcp" not "manually assigned". Hope this helps.

Wont go to websites when Itype words- only accepts numbers

Open Internet Explorer, under the tools tab, select "Internet options". Once there, select the "Connections" tab. At the top you will see, "To setup and Internet connection, click "Setup", click on "Setup", once there, click "next", On the next page, make sure "connect to the internet" is selected and click next. On the next page click, "Setup my connection manually", click next. On the next page select(Make sure it reads exactly as follows), "Connect using a broadband connection that is always on", click next. On the next page, click "finish". That should do it.
