RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, replace the Command.com file in the Winnt\System32 folder with the same file from another computer that is running Windows NT Workstation 4.0 or Windows NT Server 4.0, and then make sure that there are no Command.com files dated 7/11/95 on the computer. You can also replace the Command.com file on the computer with the same file on the Windows NT installation CD-ROM.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 stuck in windows boot manager file \windows\system32\config\system status: 0xc000014c info: windows failed to load because the system registry file is missing or corrupt ...

Here's part of an article on how to replace that registry file:

Look in the C:\windows\system32\config\regback\ folder.
There should be copies of the registry files stored inside that folder.
They are backed up periodically and stored in that folder.

If you create a MiniWin, BartPE, or a Linux Live CD, you can start the computer from CD and move the file system to the required folder, C:\windows\system32\config\.

I can use my Dell OptiPlex GX280 PC Desktop says that windows could not start because the following files is missing or corrupt: \windows\system32\config\system

You'll need a operating system disk or repair disk to run the check disk utility.
To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc ora operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot fromit. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with whiteletters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice thepercentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run tocompletion. Then reboot machine.

If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows.Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs.

In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair whenthe options appear.

In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recoveryconsole and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.

I just found out that my windows\system32\config\system is missing I don't have the disks that came with the computer do you know how i could get one?

Hi Brittany,

It may be possible to recover your config.sys file by doing a 'system restore'. Windows makes automatic back-ups to the hard drive of all neccessary files.
Click on the link below for a quick tutorial for performing a system restore:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306084

This tutorial is for Windows XP. If you have another operating system such as Windows 7, you will find links on the same page for Windows 7 tutorials.
Feel free to message me if you need more assistance.

Best wishes,

My desktop shut down and is asking me to re install a 32 windows file. What is this and how do I fix it?

Hi, This normally means that a windows file from the system32 folder is missing or corrupt. You will have repair that by using your operating system cd and go to repair when prompted. If this does not work you may have to install a clean copy of your operating system.

Program Vista Home Error Message: config.nt The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and windows applications.

Hi VincB49,

Without getting too technical what you have is trying to run a 16-bit program in an 32-bit environment. When a 16-bit trys to run in windows 2000 it runs in windows nt dos environment, anyway, try this: Click Start>control panel>system>Advanced- click on "Environment Varialbles"> In the user name for User_Name list click "TMP" and click edit> In the Variables Value box type:

c:\winnt\temp and click OK three times, close control panel. I hope this helps you, if not, hit me back, we have other options i.e. pathway applications.

Thanks for using FixYa.com

Sincerely, cyyyd7

Hal.dll error after booting

HAL - Hardware Abstraction Layer (hal.dll)
HAL is Microsoft’s abbreviation for the Hardware Abstraction Layer, the technology and drivers that let the Windows NT, 2000, and XP operating systems communicate with your PC’s hardware. HAL is one of several features–along with the NT file system (NTFS) that replaced the much less secure MS-DOS–that make NT-based operating systems more secure and reliable than Windows 95, 98, and Me.
HAL.dll prevents applications from directly accessing your PC’s system memory, CPU, or hardware devices (such as video and sound cards)–a method that can prevent many device conflicts and crashes. Unfortunately, HAL.dll sometimes also slows or stops DOS games and programs, which need to load their own memory managers or control hardware directly for better performance.
With HAL.dll in the way, developers must rewrite or even abandon their older software in favor of newer, HAL-compatible versions. Microsoft has pressured hardware makers to provide or support technologies such as MMX, DirectX, and 3D graphics language OpenGL, all of which allow fast but indirect access to the advanced high-performance features of video, sound, and CPU hardware. Such access also makes for a better visual experience when using Windows for Web and productivity applications; improved graphics performance is evident all over Windows XP’s new user interface.
XP also offers some new compatibility-mode features that let you run programs meant to run under earlier operating systems, but, frankly, most DOS-based and even some Windows-based games simply won’t work with the new OS.
