Question about ViewSonic VP211b 21.3" LCD Monitor

Monitor only works for short period of time

Just plugged in a second VP211b to run along side another VP211b I already have. I have a 8800 GTS video card and my original monitor works just fine. I can get the new one to run great for about an hour and then it will start to flicker and shuts off entirely. No power light..nothing. If I reboot the problem goes away or I can unplug the power to the monitor a minute or so and that will also fix it. I've tried several different power cords and several DVI cables...Same thing. I've even swapped the power and DVI cables from the working monitor and get the same results. Any ideas?

No VGA ports on the 8800 GTS but I have tried 3 different sets of DVI cables and get the same result. I should also mention that I've dumped the drivers for both the card and monitor and reinstalled. Nothing!

Just got the new one on Wednesday. Ebay purchase but I do have 30 days according to the seller.

These monitors have a problem of poor quality capacitors. Loss of power as the monitor heats up suggests bad caps. Marginal caps perform worse at higher temps. I repaired a VP211b in 2006 by replacing C52 and C53 on the power supply board. These are 680 uF 25V. I replaced them with 1000 uF 25V because that is what I had on hand. The monitor worked good until now (2015).
Like yours, it would lose power as it heated up. This time the big capacitor on the power supply failed. It is 150 uF 400V. Replacing the bad cap fixed it. These electrolytic caps usually swell when they go bad. The top will curve upward. There may be some brown material leaking out. Any swollen cap should be replaced.

It's internal..the video card/board inside may be weakening, with a thermal cut out that is built in, just for this purpose.

how long you had that one, and is it under warranty?

I have a viewsonic vp211b monitor and when I try to hook it up to my dell it doesn't do anything at all. no pictures on the screen nothing. The power supply is fine as I am getting a green light on the...

I have repaired several of these Viewsonic VP211b monitors. In every case, the problem was a blown fuse on the inverter board. There are two fuses, F1 and F2. Either one can fail. The fuses are located on either side of the CN1 connector. These fuses are 1.5 mm long, 1.0 mm wide and 0.5 mm high (Case Style 1206). They have the letters FN printed on them. The N is for 2 Amps and the F is for Very Fast Blow.
The fuses were made by LittleFuse. The replacements were purchased from Newark Electronics. Part number 64R8010. This part number is the Fast blow 2.0 Amp (not the Very Fast blow), but they work fine.
Troubleshooting hint:
The screen is illuminated with fluorescent back lights. Those back lights are powered by the inverter. If everything is working except the back lights, you should be able to see a faint image by shining a bright flashlight into the screen.

Monitor will come on for 1 second and then go blank and the power light go from blue to red then if you cut power back on it will come back on for a second and then shut off

moniotr switches into power save mode when it is connected to the computer and there is no signal for the computer. Try following the steps below which i recomended for another poster as well

Unplug the monitor from the power
Unplug the monitor from the computer
Plug the monitor back in.
Try turning it on.

DOES IT SAY "NO SOUCRE DETECTED" or soemthing like that???

if it DOESN'T it means there is something wrong with the computer.

if it DOES:

plug it back on to the computer, turn the computer power off.
Press and hold the power button on the computer for about 15 seconds.
Plug the computer back on.
Try turning the computer on.
if it's not turning on again there a problem either with your monitor cable, or the plug, or the video card plug. It is unlikely that your video card is broken if you hear no wired series of short and long beeps when you try turning the computer on.
Good luck.

Viewsonic VP211b No Power

I have fixed several of these.
The most common fail on the Viewsonic VP211b is a blown fuse on the inverter board. Check fuses F1 and F2. These are Fast Blow 2.0 Amp surface mounted fuses, case style 1208. Available at Newark Electronics, part number 64R8010. They are located on either side of connector CN1.

Many screens on one monitor!

Your monitor is malfunctioning and requires servicing. Unfortunately there is no software solution, and no monitor adjustment buttons will control this problem. Due to the high cost of replacement parts and service technicians, it may be more cost effective to buy a new LCD monitor. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news :(
