Question about Kenmore Dishwashers

1 Answer

Our Kenmore dishwasher, 587.16074201, will not start when the touch pad, "Start/Cancel" is touched. However, it will start in the delay mode and will then stop if the touch pad, "Start/Cancel" is touched. All the other touch pads function correctly. Thanks!

Sounds like a faulty control panel. I would use an ohmmeter and test all the functions to see if you have continuity in each mode.

From where the wires attach on the panel itself, use the ohmmeter between the connector point on the panel and to the disconnected wire itself. For that button, you should get a reading. If not, the panel is dead. You can do this for each button on the panel.

My Kenmore 665 has the pots/pans, hi temp and heated dry lights on. It won't cancel or start. Is there a reset button, or what would be the problem?

This means the touch pad has failed, You would need to replace the touch pad to fix this issue.

Dishwasher ran all night still not finished. Error code 4H displaying.

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly. The 4H is indicating your dishwasher is in the delayed wash start mode. Here is some information from Sears about what to do:

  • The number letter combination indicates that the dishwasher is in a "Delay Start" mode, as well as how many hours were set for the delay start.
  • The dishwasher will not start the wash until it reaches the delayed hour that it was set for. Example: 1H = 1 hour delay start, 2H = 2 hour delay start, etc.
    • To start the dishwasher immediately and not wait for the Delay Start time, cancel the "Delay Start" option, by pressing the Cancel button. Then program the cycle and options and press Start.
    • To start the dishwasher after the Delay time, select the cycle and options desired. Select the "Delay Start" option and on some dishwashers it requires, pressing the Start button.
    • Some dishwashers will display a countdown of the delay time on the display.
Note: Refer to the Owner's Manual or Use & Care Guide for specific instructions on using the "Delay Start" feature.

If you need more assistance we will need your exact model number in any of your future responses.
Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

The touch pad for favorite setting and start don't work. The only way we can make it run is by using delay start. Would like to fix it ourselves if someone can tell us what needs to be replaced. Thanks Sue...

Your looking at either the main control board or touchpad. I would say 80% controlboard 20% touchpad. Does the bottom light up when you touch the start button or delay button?

  1. To cancel the delay.press the delay pad again when the delay is counting down. The indicator light will go out and the cycle will start or resume immediately.
  2. To cancel the delay and the cycle, press Start/cancel once to drain and turn-off the dishwasher.
  3. Press Start/cancel twice to turn-off the dishwasher without draining.

Your touch pad has to be replaced to fix this one, be cautious with any liquids getting into contact with ANY touch pad. When cleaning just use a damp cloth.
