Question about Dell INSPIRON 6000 CENTRINO 1.7GHZ,512mb,40GB,DVDRW,XP (086216118098) PC Notebook

Hello, Recenlty, when I started up my laptop I got a blue screen with a message to the effect of "windows has been shut down to prevent further damage." I've tried to restart in every configuration and mode possible and I still get the same screen. This may be a coincidence, but my power cord has not been making contact lately and the battery has been slowly dying as a result. It was to the point, were if I unplugged it would turn off completely. However, as I try to restart now, it is unplugged so its running off its own power somehow. So my questions are: What can I do to get back up and running properly and could this be related to my power issues? If its hopeless, is there a way I can recover my files. Most importantly my pictures which contain precious memories of my young son. Thank you so much for any and all help!!! Margaret

Thank you for your help! I'm glad to know I can recover my files. The metal piece that connects into the laptop broke off so I can't test it, unfortunately. I have a new one on order though.

    Thanks again for the input!

Try to remove the battery and connect the power adapter and the cord only. Making sure that the power adapter has a green light. Then try turning on your laptop. If it fails then the power adapter is broken, you are going to need a new one, exact model of the power adapter. In any case, you can always recover your files by removing the hard drive from your laptop and insertng it to an external casing so that it will be an external hard drive. By this, you can connect this to another computer thru usb connection where you can back up your important files.

    Natzki,

Thank you for putting my mind at ease about my files!!! The metal piece that connect the power cord to the laptop actually broke off so I'm unable to test anything. The new power cord should be arriving shortly!

    Thanks again!

no problem, I'm glad to help. It's a good thing that a new power cord will be arriving. If your laptop is within warranty then I believe they ( Dell ) can replaced that for free.

Hello i have an HP windows 7 i turned it on and it goes to blue hp screen and freezes up

A blue screen error usually comes up on Windows 7 when there is a serious hardware or software issue that may be causing Windows to Shut Down unexpectedly. At times, a message may also come up on your screen saying "Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer."

To troubleshoot this issue, you may need to try out multiple troubleshooting options to detect whether the issue is with your hardware or software and to resolve the same as per the recommended procedure.

To know more about your troubleshooting options to get rid of blue screen error, you need to refer to the following Microsoft and HP support pages:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows7/resolving-stop-blue-screen-errors-in-windows-7
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c00372711#N182

A blue screen appears when i turn on my computer.... sayin "a problem has been detected and windows has beed shut down to prevent damage to your computer."

A blue screen or Blue Screen Of Death, BSOD, is generally caused by a corrupt driver or a bad software installation.
First, you need to determine the STOP code that is on that screen.
  • Start in safe mode, press F8 repeatably as the computer starts up,
  • check Disable automatic restart on system failure (This prevents Windows from automatically restarting if an error causes Windows to fail.)

OK, now the BSOD will stay there so you can determine what caused your problem. Report back the stop code and any information about a driver that caused the problem so we can be of further help.
If this answers your question, I would appreciate 4 thumbs

My computer shut down windows to prevent damage from my computer

Try tapping the F5 or F8 key (could be either one) right after you power up. This should take you to a short text message with a couple of choices to continue; you'll find the Safe Mode option there.

Blue screen of death

you need to boot from the cd, you have to change the boot senquence to start wth cd rom, when it prompts you to press any key to boot form cd,do that, it will load some files then restart again and the same message will appear, this time don't press any key, just let it continue on its own.
