Question about Gateway Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have a gateway 9510 server running windows 2003. The system alert light is orange, and the two tops fans are blowing wide open making it very, very loud. It will boot up properly, I just want to make the alert light go away and make the fans run at a normal speed.

Thanks for responding. I tried cleaning the fans but they still run at a high rpm speed. Just noticed the lights on the them do not come on either.

Hi,

Solution for your problem is remove the fan and clean the dust accumalated on the wings, this would solve your problem. Even then if your problem is not solved do replace the fan with new one.

Hi deb lewis,
the orange power light is your warning that your power supply is going bad. I'd replace the power supply with the same size or larger (preferred)

System Fault indicator light on in a Gateway 975 Rackmount Server

If it is on steady and green, the server is operating normally.
If it is on steady and orange, the server is "in a critical or unrecoverable condition"

This is according ro the manual located at http://support.gateway.com/s/Manuals/Servers/8510289.pdf

If it is orange, for further diagnostics, you should see POST error codes, or hear relevant audible beep-code patterns, which can be interpreted by checking the tables in the PDF Server manual linked above. (Pages 125 and 128 respectively.)

If it's green, of course, you dont have a problem.

Since more then one fan is going crazy after 5 minutes, try these things first:

Make sure the server has enough space where air can ventilate properly. Also make sure there is no dust or dirt sitting on top of the fans cause lack of air ventilation can make the fans start acting up. Also make sure the room is staying nice and cool so that way cool air is being ventilated thru the server.

If you have done these things and your server is still acting up then your motherboard is starting to go bad cause that means the motherboard is having trouble regulating the voltages going thru it and thats why the fans are running really crazy the way they do.

If its just one fan I would say replace the one fan but since both are acting up, I doubt that both fans would go bad at the same time.

Copy RAID driver to mini diskette.
Boot server using Windows Server 2003 CD
The moment you see the blue setup screen press F6
After the setup runs for a little while it will ask you if you have any additional drivers you need to install
Then insert your mini diskette with the RAID driver and respond to prompts to load it.
Windows should no recognize the RAID controller and let you complete the installation.

Won't boot up, Fans are on non-stop

Open up the pc with power off. After cleaning with a blowing or sucking device, gently press on the connections and plug-in devices. Retry.

If no avail, the power supply or the motherboard may have bit the dust. U can get them repaired or replaced.... or save the HD and buy a another pc and add the old HD as a data disk.
