Question about Canon Digital Cameras

1 Answer

Camera has been idle for a couple of years. Tried to start it and charge it. Not a glimmer from it. Bought a new battery, still no response. Does not show any life when on the charger and the battery removed. Charger does get warm after a couple of hours connected. Any thing else I can do.

Here are some simple things to try first for a camera that won't power on. They won't work for every case, but they're worth a try:

Battery

Might be the camera's battery terminals, not the battery itself. Take a qtip and some isopropyl aclohol and clean the terminals in the battery well of camera.

Tip

I have the same problem with a Canon Powershot s20. Bought approx 5 years ago...

Many digital cameras (eg Samsung D53, Nikon 2100) have extremely poor battery life with alkaline batteries (under 20 shots!). Sometimes they won't even take a single picture.

Try using rechargeable batteries or "oxyride" disposable batteries. They perform infinately better.

I cant get any response from my Intova IC12. This worked when I used it last year? When I try and charge the battery - nothing. No power. What should I do?

Hello mayairwin,
If you didn't use the camera/charge the battery for a year, then the battery may be dead. Li-ion batteries cannot be left to fully discharge. They must always have a slight charge in order to be recharged. Please contact us at Intova for customer service by email, fatema@intova.net or call us at 808-837-0074. Thanks

I haven't turned the camera on for a couple of years. I've tried charging the battery, but I can't get it to power up. Do I need to replace battery or is it something else?

If the rechargeable battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced. Rechargeable batteries will fail if stored in a discharged state for long periods.

After charging tz3 battery and put in camera it

Are you using the batteries recommended by the manufacturer? that is a very important fact, even though you can find other batteries that have the same specs, they make the cameras to where it will work best, and sometimes only, with the batteries recommended.

Rechargable batteries drain as soon as they are put in the camera

Your circuit board has developed a short. There is only one way to fix it, replace the main circuit board. Buy an A530 camera with a cracked LCD online from someone, to fix it.

Battery not charging

The same thing happened to my Casio Exilim EXZ75 camera. Whenever I tried to charge my battery, the battery charger light just keeps blinking. And it didn't stop. So after a period of time doing the same thing over again I called the casio customer service and they were very friendly. I told them my situation and they asked me a few questions, like my number, where I live, the serial number on the bottom of my camera and they told me that it was very common of lithaunim batteries to have a red light blinking. So they sent me a new battery for free. Thats right no extra charge and now my camera works like it did the first time I bought it. Casio customer service number: 1-800-435-7732. The most important thing about them giving you a new battery is your camera's serial number. I mean they just can't give a free battery to just anyone. Hope I've been a great help to anyone.
