Question about Philips Televison & Video

We have purchased via Amazon your TV LCD42" 42PFL5604H serial no. 8712581464400 on 30 June 2010. We are a little concerned that every now and again there is the sound of a spark as if something were short circuiting. The picture and sound is momentarily lost but just as quickly restored. We are concerned that the next time this happens we might permanently lose both picture and sound. As we have purchased this TV via Amazon where do we stand (if necessary) regarding repairs, please? We live in France. Must add that apart from this we are delighted with your product. Thanks in anticipation of your reply. Robert Benns.

The TV is almost surely defective, and symptoms could be those of a PSU starting to fail, or of a defective main controller.

The TV is covered by one year factory warranty. Unless you purchased your TV second hand, you should be able to get the TV fixed under limited warranty terms.

Before contacting Philips I suggest testing the TV on a different wall socket. If you are using power surge protector or power cord adapter (eg. from UK to EU), also replace adapter.

As said, unless purchased second hand, the product is covered by 12 (or 24) months international warranty. You should be able to have the repair service carried by Philips.

TV is connected to cable; when we have a picture it is terrific. There are several times during the day when we have audio but screen is black. Unplugging and waiting an hour or more sometimes helps but...


Return it to Amazon.com.Get a replacement tv.This tv have problems with it 1 or 2 long LCD inverter boards,it dying going to be dead.That why u have only a flashes of a picture only a few second,than died,just black screen lelf and have sound.Or talk to Amazon.com customer serviced to get ur tv a warrenty repair.

Sound like ur Tuner board have intermitint problems,it work awhile,than the old problems occur again.Tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a refurbish Tuner board for the replacement.Because this problems come and goes.

I have a blue haze across the bottom of the tv screen. About 1 1/2 inches tall. what causes this?


Go to the Zenith repair site. This has been resolved in a lawsuit. Zenith will fix it free of charge through 7/1/2010. The shop just picked my up to replace the light engine free of charge. Call 1-800-228-1757, have your model number and serial number, and where you purchased it. Here's the neat thing-the question I asked is "have they fixed the problem with the light engine, or is it going to keep going bad?" If happens again (blue lines/spots) before 7/1/2010, they'll replace the TV with a new and different TV of equal value!
