Question about Maytag MMC5000 Microwave Oven

Open Question

I want to know where in Melbourne i can buy a fuse for my micro wave , the fuse in question is a 5kv 0.75 amp glass fuse. i have replaced the fuse with a 250 v 0.5amp glass fuse this being the lowest amp fuse i could buy. the microwave works now but for how long , and will it work on high power for any length of time. i have replaced a similar fuse in an other microwave a few years ago , a Tiffany MWSS23 as in above, this unit still works perfectly. however the present appliance has a grill function , hence my question

SOURCE: Microwave not functioning

The fuse is usually located behind the control panel, sometimes near the switches, or on the chassis floor. In some models it may be mounted in the line noise filter.

If you or someone you know decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel, which is very helpful when troubleshooting.

We're happy to help and we appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

I need a replacement micro-wave glass rotating dish for model #790.80323310. Can I buy at a Sears store or do I need to buy on-line?

I am not aware of any Sears store that sells parts directly, although some will assist you in ordering them on line using an in-store computer. I'd just go to the Sears web site.

Blown HV fuse

I would replace it with a fuse of the same 5kv.09 as replacing with another may overload the microwave and cause a fire.

not recommended to replace with a higher fuse rating or kind

My Emerson microwave is about 2 years old. I washed it just like I do every week and the power went out on it.

you mean it want power up or want work when you press the star buttom?
1. check the fuse if no power.

2. If it doesn't work when closing the door after setting timer it is the micro switch that the metal lach hits when the door close.

3. unpluge the micro wave unscew the scews to the cover of the microwave remove the cover. up front by the door you will see the micro switch maybe (brown,black,white,red/white ) what ever color it is disconet it take it to the hardware store buy a new one and replace it,themreasemble your micro wave.

Micro wave simply quit. How an I check to see if

The fuse is located inside the microwave. You will need to remove the front panel to get to it. It will be located on the black power wire inside the microwave and installed inline. Make sure that the microwwave is unplugged before removing the front panel. Once you locate the fuse inside you will need to remove it and test it with a continuity tester to see if it is blown. If it is make sure you replace the fuse with the same amp rating you found. If the new fuse blows again then there is an electrical short somewhere inside the microwave.

Change fuse on model#jvm1631bb002

Take the outer case off that reaches from one side over the top and to the other side. The fuse is located behind the control touch panel. Back where you will see wires, a capaister, transformer, ect. What your looking for is a fuse that looks just like an old round glass car fuse. It's not one though. It's a fuse made just for micro waves. Where the glass would be it's either black, white or tan. Noramlly it's a 20amp. Good luck.

Oven appears to function normally but doesn't cook at all.

With micro waves, this could be a number of things. They are hard to diagnose using this forum but I'll try. There are three things you can check. One being the thermal fuse. On some models, when it goes bad it put some things out. with others it puts every thing out.
if it's good, check the mag tube (Magnatron). Most of the time, it will be burned on the end if it's bad. tube. The last thing would be the fuse. It is made of ceramic and is a 20amp. It looks like a old round car fuse but it's not. It's made just for micro waves. Honestly, if the thermal fuse and the round 20 amp fuse is not the problem, you may be able to replace the micro wave cheaper than replacing the parts.
Thermal fuse $28.99.
Round 20amp fuse $1.53
Transformer $100.00.
Mag tube $87.00
Capacitor $45.00
Go to www.appliancepartspro.com and enter your model number. This will pull up every part in the micro wave and their prices. Then you will ba able to decide if you want to replace the parts. With yours being one that's built-in over the stove. These cost more and are worth putting more into. If I can help any more comment back and I'll do what I can.
