Hmmm so you have a wired router? or you are plugging your laptop directly into your cable/dsl modem and when it doesnt work you are trying the desktop which does work?
If this is the case are you powercycling the modem (unplug power to modem wait 30 seconds and plug it back in...btw if you are using a mta or the modem has a backup battery you will want to find and press the reset button) when you switch devices? (make sure you have the laptop conected before you powercyle)

The folowing directions are if you are using a microsoft operating system:

Does your laptop pull an ip?(if so what is it?) If not then go to start then run enter the command "cmd" then type "ipconfig /release" hit enter the command will reset your ip to then type "ipconfig /renew" and press enter if it takes a while and does not pull a new ip address then you may have a nic card or protocol issue. You can resolve this by uninstalling the network card in add remove hardware and then restarting the laptop. The system will automatically remove and reinstal the tcp ip protocol and all that goes along with it.

BTW if you get a 192.x.x.x for an ip then i am sorry to say but you are plugging into something similar to a router and then another approach must be taken.

p.s. a wireless router is a good investment if you have more than one system in the home. And may be a easy work-around to a NIC(network interface card) issue.
Hope this helps Good luck!!!!

How do I recover a forgotten password for an overdrivepro63E wireless internet stick

Wireless networking is a common feature in homes and offices.
Wireless routers provide access to a single Internet source, and wireless passwords ensure that only select users can access the network.
If a password is forgotten or lost, the password can be recovered or reset by accessing the router's Web-based settings menu.
Most wireless routers also have a reset button, which is capable of returning the router to its default settings which includes resetting the password.

Connect to your Wi-Fi or attach your computer directly to the router with an Ethernet cable.
Open your Web browser. Enter the default address of your router.
The default address is listed in your user manual or on the product website. Linksys and 3Com routers typically use "" while Netgear routers use ""
Enter your username and password.
Many routers use "admin" for the username and password by default.
Locate the wireless security settings.
Disable the wireless security.
Reset to Factory Defaults
Locate the reset button on your router.
Typically the reset button is a small indented hole on the back of the device.
Insert a long thin object such as a paperclip and hold down the reset button for 30 seconds to revert the router to its factory default settings.
Open your Web browser.
Enter the default address of your router.
The default address is listed in your user manual or on the product website.
Linksys and 3Com routers typically use "" while Netgear routers use ""
Enter your username and password.
Many routers use "admin" for the username and password by default.
Locate the wireless security settings and add security as necessary.

Uninstall office and reinstall it. You will not lose any files. Then go to MY COMPUTER and right click. Scroll down to MANAGE. The computer management console opens up. Go to the left open up DEVICE MANAGER and click. Go to the right and go down to NETWORK ADAPTERS. Find your wireless adapter there and see if the driver is good. It could be broken or missing. In that case uninstall it and go to sonys e support website. There you will find the driver for your wireless device. Download it and reintall it. I hope this helps you.

I'm having trouble connecting my laptop. I see my secured wireless network and when I try to connect to it, It tells me that it is limited or no connectivity. How can I connect to it?

Its not letting you connect due your laptop not having or having the wrong wireless password. You need to log on the your wireless router, double check what its set to. then go into your wireless config on your laptop and set it there. If you can let me know what copy of windows you are running i.e xp, vista, 7 etc and what router you are running then I will be able to give you a more detailed guild.

Slow typing response

Shutdown all non-necessary programs (Winamp, LimeWire) to reduce the "load" on your computer.

Disconnect your computer from the Internet (unplug the Ethernet cable or disable the wireless connection).

Then, launch MS Word.

Virus-scan your computer -- some computer-virus may be consuming resources.

Have BROTHER PRINTER that will accept wireless, It needs ssid to operate. i am using vista 64 bit. can u help me please

The SSID is the name of your wireless router assuming you have one. That series of printer isn't designed for PC to Printer direct wireless but rather to have your PC print over the network connection through the router to the printer.

If you do have a wireless router and just don't know the SSID, go to your wireless computer/laptops networking screen in control panel and view the available wireless networks. The one you're connected to is yours. The name displayed in that window is the SSID you need to enter into the printer.

Note: you will also require the routers password if it is a secure router.

Hope this helps,
