Question about Samsung SV7000W VHS VCR

1 Answer

Blinking white sparks during playback. My unit has this problem during playback, and I discovered that the SV-5000W has the same problem too ( see http://www.fixya.com/support/t151239-major_dropout ). At first I was thinking that it was a dirty head problem ( tried to clean with no luck ) but found out that "tapping" the machine fix temporairy the problem (so it's not dirt). The SV-5000W owners on the above link discovered that it was a general project flaw, but I still did not understood what they did (I'm not a natural english speaker). So can any good soul post a picture somewhere (preferably for the SV-7000W model) explaining exacly where to do what? Thank you very much in advance.

Thank you very much for the quick reply. The problem is where to find a service shop in my city (São Paulo/Brazil) with prople who knows what a multisystem converter VCR is ( They only talk about BluRays and DVDs these days ). I tried the Samsung service shops but they do not deal with VCRs anymore ( also this machine was imported from Korea, etc). Oh boy :(

I looked at the link provided and there was no cure mentioned. From my experience with VCRs in general, I would suspect a flaw in the video pre-amp circuit used for playback. This could be distortion. Without seeing the actual unit and examining the signals on an oscilloscope, I can't be sure where the problem exists. It should be fixable however. Something as simple as a bad filter cap at the heads could cause this as well. The signal levels at the heads are extremely low. This unit requires test equipment that the homeowner is nit likely to posess. I would take this to a service shop.

Thank you very much for the quick reply. The problem is where to find a service shop in my city (São Paulo/Brazil) with people who knows what a multisystem/converter VCR is, not damaging it even more. Service shops these days mostly deal with DVD and BluRay players... I tried the Samsung offices with no luck (they do not deal with VCRs any more). And I need this machine working to transfer many videos from around the world to DVDR... Oh boy :-(

Thank you also! I soldered a piece of wire from the copper springs to one of the chassis screws. I took the closest srew out, sanded the grey paint around the screw hole for good conductivity, and attached a screw terminal connector to the end of the wire. It worked like a champ! No white specks! I've been anoyed by this for years and I am happy as can be. I was even thinking about buying a new unit, but your tip saved me a lot of dough.

Pal to NTSC

Hi, Based on your post/description, you need to get a multi-system TV to go with your multi system VCR if you are going to playback VHS tapes from different regions. You are quite correct "Plays NTSC tapes to NTSC, Will not Play Pal to NTSC" to play PAL (even Secam) you would need a PAL/Secam TV. They have a different system for color and audio. In some cases, you can still play PAL but you get it in black & white and picture squeezed from top & bottom. Hope this be of some help to you. Good luck and kind regards.

Faintly blinking power light

This may indicate power supply problems, or perhaps an overload condition, causing the power supply to go into overload protection. If you have a voltmeter, schematic (helpful but not 100% necessary), you could check voltages. You should see at +5 volts, +12 volts, and one or two others. A frequent power supply problem is one or more electrolytic capacitors go wacky, and cause the voltages to be way off, and a non-operational unit. If this is one of the newer low cost rigs, then taking it to a service center isn't cost effective. Toss it and purchase a new one.

VCR Samsung SV-5000W

You should take off the top cover with the set unplugged and see if there is a main fuse that popped. If there is, put in another fuse,. If that blows, then your going to need to have the power supply in this unit repaired. Good Luck
