If it was near the main video head, it's a video head cleaning roller. Since you seem able to clean the video head yourself from time to time, I would leave it off. It won't effect the performance of the vcr, as long as any remaining parts are clear of the tape path.

Broken head cleaning arm - don't panic though, as these parts are next to useless in operation anyway and do not affect the performance of the VCR - it is usually located between the head drum assembly and master cam (the big white gear wheel on the top of the mechanism in the Z-mech series) - it is clipped in place. remove the remaining broken stump from the deck, as well as the piece you found - throw those away and clean the heads manually as required.

Ensure there are no pieces of plastic/nylon lurking around any moving parts of the mech. and you should be OK.

I took out some 2001 9/11 taped back then. Inserting them the TV message was CLEAN VIDEO HEADS. I don't know how to do this. Are the video heads on the VCR or on the video tape? What would i use to...

You can purchase a VCR cleaning tape that will do the job. However the best way is to buy a can of Servisol Video 40 (small one will do and it will last a long time) then remove the top cover of the VCR. Spray the VCR heads. Shinny Silver things and any moving parts that the tape touches. If your not certain what to clean, with the cover off insert a tape and press play. Remove the tape and spray small amounts on the surfaces. If you can see a lot of dust you can wipe the heads etc with a cotton bud. A VCR housed in a smokers house will need extra work to get it clean. Once dry you can test a tape. If you see flecks or spots the VCR will need further cleaning.

Vcr has sound but no picture

You will need to clean the heads on the vcr. Find a good tape cleaner. Or you may use a cotton cloth with some rubbing alcoho,l and wipe the round cylinder that spins around the vcr tape. This is a common problem on all vcrs and vcr combos. Thanks for asking and show all hands of support!

When I push play there are lines and rolling and I can not control with tracking .

Always best to see if a good clean will do the trick. You can do this yourself better than a cleaning tape, but you can try one if you don't like the idea of messing with the VCR yourself. If you want to do the work, then get some Servisol Video 40 (you can find it on-line). Take the top cover off the VCR - disconect from the mains first. Then spray the servisol where the tape touches, especially the tape heads. If you don't know what to spray then after you take off the top of the VCR insert a tape and press play and watch where the tape touches. Remove tape turn off power and spray. You can use a cotton bud in the tricky areas too. Allow to dry and try a tape. You might have to do the clean again depending how dirty the VCR was. If the VCR lives in a smoke filled room that will make more work to clean it.
If it still doesn't stop rolling then you might have got a head fault.

I need to clean the heads of my vcr

The best method is to open the top cover after UNPLUGGING It from the wall socket. Take a clean white paper and wrap it round your index finger and press that finger on the whole surface of the shiny drum with circular lines on it. Now keeping even pressure on the drum, rotate the drum by touching only the top part of the drum with the other hand. After rotating it a few times you will notice when you remove the paper it will have some black lines or mark. That's the dirt that prevents the picture from coming. You may have to do it a couple of time before you get the picture. Be careful not to move the paper finger or you could damage the head. You can also wet the paper with surgical spirit to clean only remember TO DO A DRY CLEANING AFTER THAT before you inset a tape for testing.

I purchase the above DVD/VCR (wanted the tuner for watching and taping a diff. channel) about two years ago now. It works well for about 6 months. I than had physical problems that made this problem mute...

You could try giving the mechanism a good clean. Use cotton buds and Servisol Video 40 (you should be able to get this online).
Pay attention to the rubber roller area, main tape head, tracking and control heads. But anywhere the tape touches.
If it works remember to clean it every so-often. At least every 6 months, depending on use. More often if someone smokes where the vcr lives, as you will find out when you first clean it if this is the case!

I can't scroll well using external mouse on laptop Dell inspiron1525, how can i fix this??

The problem is from the external mouse if your mouse is a ball mouse roll the ball round with your hand to ensure that it rolls freely clean all forms of dirt on the mouse and around the ball

If your mouse is an optical one wipe the optical surface with a clean cloth or cotton wool.

always ensure that you use your mouse on a smooth surface for proper scrolling.

Tape comes out of cassette when ejected.

Your VCR is "eating" tapes, this is a common problem. First, wind the tape up by sticking a penny or other rounded object into the white "gears" on the back of the tape (with the tape hatch open by holding down the small button on the left side of the tape) and turn either clockwise or counterclockwise. Then check inside the VCR for moisture and remove any and all moisture with a clean rag. Moisture can cause the tape to stick to the VCR's internal components.

Best of luck to you.

No belt, this is direct drive, the motor is part of the brush roll. If you go to sears.com, click on parts, put in you rmodel number, it starts with 116.*********. It will bring up a parts list along with a picture breakdown for you to look at, and you can order parts there also. You might also check where the hose goes into, some of these have a switch there, when you push the hose in it hits an actuator that engages the switch. This actuator breaks and then the brush roll won't turn because it can't engage the switch.

I am receiving a message on the dvd that says: bad disc DVD VCR-DV1040 Dr. Ross

Hello have you cleaned the laser with a laser cleaning disc ? otherwise take the top off and get a clean cotton bud and put a small amount of white spirits on it and clean the laser when you have done this use another clean cotton bud and wipe off any exess fluid if any.
Does it play anything eg cd's or is it always saying bad disc ?

Player doesn't recognize any disc

The lens is located right next to the spindle motor, or where the disc sits on a small round turntable looking disc. Be very carefull with this, as you can very easly damage it. Just take a slightly damped cotton swab and litely , in a swirling motion, clean the lens. With the dry end, do the same and try it. If it does not work, these players are common for the spindle motor, laser assembly, or the focus or tracking servos to go bad, and most likly will exceed the cost of a new one to have repaired. Good Luck PS Please do not forget to rate this thread.
