Question about Computers & Internet

How do you get an IMP Thinkpad working? I've just acquired one without instructions. When I turn it on I get a diagram on the screen with a couple of flashing arrows, 2 of which point to F1. When I click on F1 the screen comes up with I9990302 & below it I9990305 and nothing else happens.

    The Make

  • fray5457 Oct 11, 2010

Just to let you know that I've found a User Guide for the IBM Thinkpad on the Diplofix website which is very helpful. Thanks for being willing to help me with my problem.

  • fray5457 Oct 15, 2010

The seller's description is an IBM Thinkpad 380 XDLaptop Notebook PC Pentium MMX MSDOS.
I still haven't got it working. The manual I obtained from the internet wasn't helpful and the CD-ROM didn't bring up anything after I inserted it. Have you got any solutions? Thanks.

Sorry, I forgot to include the name of the operating system. I've pasted the info the seller provided. This Notebook/Laptop comes fitted with a Brand New 3.3GB Compact Flash MicrodriveIt has been Pre-installed to Multi-Boot with MS-DOS 7.1 and Microsoft Windows 2000 SP4

There are some information still missing, it's hard to guess, If possible, please let me know the exact model of your IBM ThinkPad, i don't think it IMP Thinkpad as you've mentioned.. Also please include the name of the Operating System installed on it.

Thanks.

Thanks for your patience, I am back and now I hope I can proceed. Thanks again for the info and I think all these will be sufficient to diagnose and troubleshoot the problem. As you did say, the diagram should be the IBM bios Error Message displaying something so that you may diagnose following the instructions in the Setup, i.e. F1. Once you press the F1, you'll be taken to the Bios Setup. The second codes l9990302 and l0000305 both indicate similar issues and errors. The possible solutions are :

    1. Check that the operating system is installed in the hard disk drive. If not, install the operating system.

    2. Reseat the boot device, i.e, the hard disk.

    3. Check the start-up sequence for the correct boot device, you have to do it from the Bios Setup.

    4. Check that the operating system boots correctly.

But before you do anything, the best option is to set the Bios Settings to it's default value.

To diagnose the problem, follow the steps:

When you see the F1 on the screen, press and hold down the F1 key until you see the Setup Menu. Now click "Test", after few seconds, "Ok" will be visible, click it. Now press Ctrl+A and start the Advanced Diagnostic Test, wait for few sec/minutes until it's completed and click Exit or press Esc on the keyboard. Now click "Test" then, "Looptest" and "Ok", once the test is done, press Esc and restart the system and try again. This is all what you can do with it from the UI virtually.

Other options are reseating the Hard Hisk, Ram. Do this while the system is off and the power cord is unplugged.

The basic disassembly steps are mentioned in the User Guide, if you need the manual, you can download it form here (click here). This may take time, but at least you will be able to find out the culprit, it could be corrupted operating system, hard disk failure, hard disk not detected, ram etc..

If you need further help, let me know.

    Good luck.

    Thanks for using FixYa.

I asked for the make and model because by mistake in your first post you typed IMP thinkpad and as per my knowledge it has to be IMB thats why I asked so that i can cross check.

I have replaced the Fan for IBM R61e but the laptop is not starting .There is nothing on the idsplay just couple of indicators .

Does it make any sound?
Does something show up on the screen?
Are you absolutely sure that the fan is OK and spinning after you start it up?
Did you plug everything correctly back? For example didn't you forget to connect back your power up button part of keyboard?

You can try to remove the keyboard and other unnecessary parts like CD-ROM. Try to start it without keyboard and the powerbutton board. But be aware this may damage your computer if you do it improperrly.

Hi there, Mine is a wifi problem.. at home or at a couple of other places I've tried, my Aspire One connects no probs. At work, it constantly tries 'Acquiring Network Address', and on going...

Plug LAN cables or turn ON Wifi.
Enter Run command or type cmd.
on the command prompt screen ( black it is ) type:
ipconfig /release
enter
next type:
ipconfig /renew
enter

type exit
NOTE: if the problems still remains, which means the router use a STATIC ip eg.192.168.1.5
( CONFIG INTERNET PROTOCOL TCP/IP = ip address : 192.168.1.5 subnet mask :255.255.255.0 default gateway : 192.168.0.8 )

My garmin keeps trying to acquire satellite and doesn't work properly. What should I do?

Most likely the GPS chip in the machine has got stuck and need to be reset. Do this either by resetting the GPS itself by doing the following:
  • Turn the GPS off
  • Press and hold the lower right corner of the touch screen.
  • Turn on the GPS without releasing the touch screen.
  • When the unit asks if you want to remove all user settings, release the touch screen and choose "yes".
This will reset the unit and most likely solve the issue. The first acquiring of satellites could take a full 30 minutes, but after that the unit should work as always.

Thinkpad T30 Error 1802 from Verizon modem..Now won't boot past error message even without modem plugged in. Help

The 1802 error is ussually caused by an "unsupported" wireless card being installed. check out this site for a fix that has worked for me on a couple Thinkpads (including the one I'm writing this message on) to allow unsopported wifi cards to work.

Wiring uv7i

you can use the deck without a remote, the only thing is you cant go into the system without the codes. there is a sequence code you must enter to disable it. there are a couple of videos on youtube but none for the uv7i. trust me, i 've been there on and off since the summertime. i am not sure if the sequence works due to me not hooking it up to external monitors but you can disable the blue screen with a on/off switch...only problem is, you'll have to do it everytime you turn your car on. here's what you do....
buy a on/off switch(radio shack $3)
hook the pink wire to one part of the switch-the other to the negative ground
put a dvd in(from what i hear, it must be store brought), wait unntil the blue screen comes up
turn the switch off...wait two seconds/turn on...wait two seconds/turn off...wait two seconds and turn back on. the blue screen is gone and video is on. ifyou still need the diagram, i'll scan mine for you.

I would suggest changing the inverter first as it it the simplest and cheapest solution. inverters for the thinkpad can be picked up on eBay for a couple of ponds.

DVD

Hi,
I don't mean to disagree with my associate, but DVD players for R series (or T, A, etc) can be found for less than 20.00 US (Ebay is a good example)
For that matter, we've got at least a dozen at our shop which we sell for 25.00
Installation is very simple as well, just pop the old drive out, put the new drive in.
Good luck
