Hello! Here is my problem; I have Gateway MX6426 laptop and CD drive went off. When I try to install Windows XP from external CD drive some problems occurred. I put CD in ext.CD drive, run clean install, and installation stopped with message: can not check dive C - your computer has got not enough memory, or some files are corrupted. So I tried to reinstall Windows from USB stick. But there is a same message during installation, and installation stops. When i restart laptop without stick, there is boot screen asking me do I want to continue with installation, or to boot on Windows. After restarting there is new message: PXE structure was not found in UNDI driver segment. Can you help?

Press F1, ie for Gateway to enter Bios settings.
Go to your BIOS MENU,

From "Boot options" set 1st boot to "removable drives" save the setting, ie if you are using an external CD/DVD or USB flash drive. If you are using an external CD/DVD Rom, ensure that the power supply to the external CD/DVD Rom drive is sufficient.

Try and reinstall the Operating System again.

Hope it helps, and good luck.

The hard disk from the laptop has died - something to be expected on a laptop this old.
Extremely easy to fix - just buy a new hard disk, put it in the laptop and install whatever version of Windows you like.

MX6426* - WINXP ME w/sp3 - F11 loop

hi, ipresume u have hooked it up to another PC using a external S-ATA-USB- case, so that the PC recognizes your drive as one of his, but u are unable to boot from it,as it is handled like a thumbdrive.
can u access the data on the disk?
if yes, make a safecopy of everything personal,
you may even try to make a back-up using the
win-back-up function, just to have a complete copy of the harddisk...,
then format drive(blank it) and put back into laptop. Now setup a new clean copy of WINXP
and yes, you may have to reinstall all the drivers+progs+private data as well...

I hope this option works for you.

Gateway MX6927 Windows Xp won't boot

put your xp disk in the optical drive.Turn off computer. Turn computer back on as soon as you turn it on start tapping f 12 constantly.it should go the boot menu giving you a choice of booting from cd or hard drive choose boot from cd.Be sure you choose repair rather than new installation or you could loose all your information stored on the hard drive,I personally would try safe mode first you can get to safe mode by tapping f 6 when you first turn on your computer.

Try borrowing a compatible HDD instead of buying a third one for testing and check if the same error exists. Try also using an external DVD drive to see if your internal CD-ROM is defective. Try also using another Windows XP CD installer. You can also use other OS installation CD to check it. Otherwise, there is something wrong with your lappy's motherboard due to tear and wear, heat, vibration, misuse and shock.

Installing win xp from external hard drive

Umm...is your laptop crashed??? Usually ntlldr issues ****. try to delete the former installation so a new ntldr file can be installed so as to not conflict with the damaged ntldr file that is on the pc blocking the install. It sounds like your setup is ok...at the very least get another xp cd to make sure the disk is not damaged that you are loading windows from.

Install windows xp

Please check your setup config to be sure of the boot order. Should be CD-ROM, Hard drive, other external media source (USB). Once you have the boot sequence set, retry the windows CD.
