Hang problem

your motherboard needs to be replaced. There was a known defect in many motherboards in the early 2000's with defective capacitors. Here's a link to a news story confirming such defect: http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/mainboards/display/20040118132705.html

Have you tried cleaning the connections and as well as the motherboard? Based on my experience, dust, especially moist dust that has build up inside the CPU tower can cause malfunctions. What i usually do is i dismantle the CPU tower and clean the components inside with soft-brissled paint brush like heat sink and fan, motherboard, graphics card, etc. When in come to the RAM i clean the pins with pencil eraser like shown in the image below.

and re-assembling them again. hope this helps

that shows that the ram memory is low, you need to upgrade to at least 256 or 512mb. because everytime you use the internet a there will always a temporary file that saves. you need to maintain your system by atleast amonth disk clean up. but the best is the you need to upgrade your ram memory

Motherboard problem

start troubleshooting by unplugging everything from motherboard, leaving only power supply, motherboard, cpu, memory. also check make sure cpu fan/ heatsink assembly is attached securely and if encounter no problem booting like this, add harddrive, repeat, then add optical drive, repeat.
also when you check hardware monitor, what do u get for readings, i.e. temp and voltage?

512 is not alot of memory (especially when running windows XP) as XP needs at least 512 to run (since SP2)

I am not familiar with the Zion brand, I tend to use Crucial or Kingston.

to find the correct mem for your board you can use the Kingston Configurator (just input the manufacturer and part details of your board and it will give you the products that work for your board.)

as computer starts hold down F8 and youll see a safe mode. use the safe mode and it might just come back, restart it....sometimes strange viruses does this but i dought in your case.it should come up in safe mode allowing you to save your files ...folders to cd record disks...then you can format and reinstall all programs.
